Dave Farr:
For the home sharing - do the computers etc need to be on the same network? My main PC is different to my ATV which even though home sharing is switched on, it doesn't work! I don't see that it should make a difference but I know nothing about networks etc.

I thought some people were using a BEO4 with it?

Dave.

Yes, since it is even called HOME sharing :). They should be on the same network. Many years back iTunes supported this over the internet but licensing issues made them change it.

You can have a B&O system control the ATV via IR PUC but not the other way around.

The ATV remote has volume buttons and can send IR commands to some brands but B&O is not included, for now at least.

Hey Dave,

Is your iTunes on your PC signed in with the same iTunes account on your Apple TV?

Maybe you can add a beautiful champagne gold Retina MacBook to your collection :) :) :)

Too true Sal.

It's very cool that Michael has noticed a real positive improvement in picture quality! His judgement is pretty fine and the fact that he's using it on a 55" Avant is excellent as a screen of that size would definitely show up failings.

Yes it is. Same username, password etc.

I've just bought a Retina MacBook Pro last week! Haven't figured it out yet.

I've gone Apple crazy recently - iPad Air 2, iPad Air first series, ATV3 x 2, ATV4, MacBook Pro. No watch though. Just to keep it balanced, I've also bought some B&O stuff too. I just want things to integrate easily.

I'm confused about the home sharing not working.

When Home Sharing sometimes stops working at my home, I log off Home Sharing from all Apple products. Wait a few moments, then ensure all of them are on the home network. Then I turn on Home Sharing from the Master Mac Account Computer (my Mac Pro); after that's ON, I wait a minute, and then turn on Home sharing on all of the subsequent products. That seems to do the trick. Your mileage may vary. This is also the process I've used to fix any iCloud troubles as well, especially iMessage account issues.

That's exactly what i do Sal and i switch off my wifi router and switch it on again. Tends to do the trick.

Also Dave, have you tried to move everything from your pc onto your macbook pro and home share it from that instead?

PS Very nice Dave. The watch is definitely not my kind of thing. I like to escape phones and technology most of the time :)

so we could use Apple TV for volume on our B&O systems too. Perhaps a bit unnecessary but it is annoying with buttons that does not work.

I have the $500 Apple Watch solution Big Smile (when it is running BeoMusic) however thanks for explanation, link, and I look forward to getting updates in your research and experiments.

The new slow-motion screensavers are very beautiful and relaxing to watch. Like this one for example. (Don't mind the cable mess. I am moving in a month)

I recommend changing the setting from monthly refresh to a daily basis Smile

I've just set-up my ATV4 but cannot turn Siri on! I didn't activate the location service on initial set-up which it seems to need for some reason and haven't managed t be able to activate it since.

Edit: now fixed by telling it I was in the US and not in France!

Not every country is Siri enabled, hence the importance of the localisation setting. And if she speaks French it's probably with a French-Canadian accent Big Smile

I tried changing my region to trick the HBO Nordic app into working but it still geoblocked me Stick out tongue

By using the PUC and the smarts in the BV that translates key beo4 commands into Apple remote commands and then pipes that signal down the IR cable

Hard to see in the picture I posted previously

Here is a new shot - I am holding a spare PUC cable with its IR transmitter eye, and you can see how I have sticky taped the working eye over the top of the new ATV

Is the eye directly on top of the sensor and how do you find it with your beo remote? Is it laggy or as quick as the Apple TV one.

You'll have to use some kind of VPN solution (like us-unblock...)

That is what we have to in Denmark (Scandinavia) or Germany, when we are geoblocked.

PLEX is now available.

Just search for "p" in the TV App Store Smile

http://9to5mac.com/2015/11/02/plex-app-for-apple-tv/

I am trying to use it. Had to reset my PLEX password and now refresh my copy of the server.

I'll post screenshots later to compare the two clients - official free versus fee.

PLEX screens

Main screen

Channels

Yay !!! Trailer app/ channel is back (hope it works) ... Seems it does - UI very difference from the Apple Trailer channel that disappeared from tvOS

Settings

Search

And now the equivalent of the fee App's screens

And finally Music CDs -- @Michael, all these screens inside the App were accessed via Beo4 and with when exception of the search keyboard where a thumb flick can do a fast scroll I would say the Beo4 /PUC response was good

I've just spent two hours with this useless pile of cack. Why aren't the apps in genres? It's as irritating as that other compete mess, Apple Music.

Try using the Tripadvisor app if you want to go insane. Steve Jobs would never have released such rubbish.

Me "Play Joshua Tree by U2" (which is on the screen)...

WOW! I received mine yesterday evening. I can confirm it fits INSIDE the BV11-55 without to many issues. You just have to take off the bottom panel, which is quite easy and only a few minutes work. See iFixit.com for instructions. With the bottom panel installed, it is just a few millimeters too thick. With the bottom removed, it just snaps into place and the BV can be closed without putting any force on the back panel.

I don't consider it an issue the Apple TV now has no bottom panel, maybe it is even better for cooling, I don't know. The PUC works great, and also the BlueTooth Apple remote works fine with the ATV inside the BV.

I haven't tried the ATV itself yet, but so far, I am very happy and still have no cables and boxes lying around except for the TV itself.

I've found when dealing with Apple to always go for the max amount of memory you can afford, since they make it impossible to add memory after the initial purchase, unlike with a traditional PC.

So true Jeff. Always learnt the hard way with iPhones and previous MacBook. I remember at art school when my iBook had a 3GB hard drive and 64mb of RAM and in those days we thought that, that was HUGE :) :) :)  Now 512GB is minimum and 8GB RAM minimum :)

True indeed, compact programming is a lost art so memory and storage needs grow exponentially. I've known programmers who got into the old Atari cartridge machines just to hone their coding skills, they found an interesting hobby in trying to do things with 8 bits and 8k of RAM.Gave them a real appreciation for the older generation of coders. I also remember,in the early 90s, one guy buying a 1 GB disk because he said he wanted a black hole that he'd never have to worry about filling up. We were in awe of it, such a huge disk! How times change.

I went for the 64GB version as it's not too much more and for the very reasons given below. You never know what you may need or what may be around the corner. I did the same for the MacBook too.

Really cool story Jeff and so true! I remember when our 1998 iMacs were running Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, the lot and everything ran like butter :) How crazy it is today :)

So true Dave, I learnt the hard way with only 16GB on an iPhone - videos, music playlists, more HD films - so hard deciding which ones to remove :(

I always reghretted buying my first iPad which was only 8 or 16GB, I can't remember now.  A few apps, games a bit of music and it was full.  My 5 year old uses it now - stripped of all the stuff I used and she just plays games (educational of course) and a bit of music.  Within a couple of days I knew I'd been a cheapskate so had to buy a new one!
