The tape deck of my more than 20 years old Beosystem 2500 does not transport any more. I can still hear the motor spin and hear the solenoid clicking, But the heads won't rise and there is no transport. Both 12 and 15 Volt are present on PCB 7 when tape is activated. I have removed this tape control PCB and the tape drive behind it. With the power unit put along side and PCB 7 beside it, I am still able to operate the tape deck holding it my hand. The motor is spinning but the belt is not moving although it looks intact. Is there something stuck in the transport mechanism or is the belt worn? If the belt is worn, what is the best place to get a reliable new one? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Beoworld and the support as a Silver member.

Start with the belts and replace them if possible via member 'Dillen'.  You can send him a message via his Bio.  Just click on his name in a post (plenty on the Vintage Forum) and start a conversation or send an e-mail.  He stocks the correct size and profile belts for tape decks and TT's though not for everything in the B&O range.  Other after market belts are often generic ones that don't always fit properly.

The belts do disintegrate and can leave a sticky residue behind which will need a good clean.  Lubrication will also help as described in the service manuals which you can access as a Silver member.

Dave.

With thanks to Dillen for sending me a replacement belt, I got the tape deck running again . I have put a short movie of the belt replacement on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnAD5PbyBGA

Well done. Martin is the Man for belts. Thanks also for the video. That helps a lot.

Hi. Just to add my 5 cents suggestion... It's much easier to work on this mechanism if you desolder the 4 pins that hold the PCB to the solenoids on the sides, allowing the board to slide away and giving you access to the flywheels and the idler wheel. In this way, you can replace the belt much easily and clean its path after mounting back the motor shaft.

Hi have got the precise same issue on my deck a ver 2 type installed in a 9300 Center - no head and no transport - can a belt failure cause the heads from not rising as mentioned in this tread ? The failure is intermittend. I do also suspect the tape casette Micro switch to be bad as the deck seems not to see the tape in the slot but do not Know if that is prone to fail.

The belt connects the motor mechanically to an idler wheel and two flywheels. Under one of them there's a cam that actuates the gear that drives the heads block up and down. It's quite normal that a failing belt could cause a whole lot of issues, especially on a single-motor mechanism.

Hi guys

Had same problem with my 2500. Proper cleaning and few drops (really small) of thin oil to right places did the trick. Cassette side is probably used quite seldom in many cases so every part of it gets sticky.
