Speaker Placement

Hi,

I'm trialling some BL 4000's this weekend to go with my BV8-40 and I have some furniture issues that would prevent me placing them next to the TV. Has anyone had any experience of having 2 speakers behind the seating position rather than the more traditional placement?

No idea how it would sound but the bl4000 are great tv speakers. Can you not wall mount them ?They are very versatile speaker..

It is not logical to place the speakers behind you. It then looks like the newsreader is talking behind you. Even for music this is not logical. At a concert you look at the stage where the music coms to your face and not from behind. The stageimage is totally gone.

Try to wallmount the speakers or place them on floorstands next to the television. The best position is that the tweeters are at earheight and in line with the speakers of the television. Place not to high, not to low. This will give the best soundstage. Try to put them between 50-100 cm from each side of your Beovision. This is, compared to the screen, the best option. Then your sweetspot should be at the same distance as the distance between the speakers.

Speakers behind you are only/mostly used for surround systems with a litle bit placement than your ears. Try to make a circle and place the speakers at the edges of this circle. This will give you the best results.

Some time ago, placing our first B & O equipment, we had to compromise as well because of furniture issues. Our choices had been either placing the two speakers left and right, a little behind, our seatings. Or, diagonal so that the left speaker was aside of the BV and the right speaker was in the position described above.

We decided for the latter choice, adjusting the profile of the speakers balance accordingly to the set up.

For us it was O. K., but after awhile, we got used to watch TV with only the BV speakers on, but using the BL's when listening to music. It is indeed weird, if you hear e. g. the news speaker and the position of the picture differs from the tone. Wall mounting was no choice because of lack of space and because I don't like wall mounted BL 6000.

Right now in our new home, we are able to have them with our BV and BL 4000 (wall mounted, as rear speakers) in a surround set up, which realizes of course a much better rendition of sound e. g. in relation to the position of our seatings. But even there, if e. g. the news speaker is speaking, the tone is coming mainly (only) from the center speaker.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've made the effort to move stuff around and now have a good amount of space to trial the speakers. Trying the V1 with a set of 4000's should be great, although not sure if I want to get rid of my BV8-40 now that I know it's been discontinued!
