Hi All,

Can anyone help with some info on where the sofware chip in the monitor part of the AV9000 television is?

I have just bought a replacment AV9000 for my old one which had become faulty.

The old one was a type 43/03 software 1.2 and dated from 1994 and was a 2 way working set with a Beolink 5000, a beo4 would also work this set as well for some reason.

The replacement set is a type 79/03 software 2.0 dating from 1995, this has Beo4 on the sticker on the back of the set and is a one way working remote set only as it stands.

Looking at the info of the web, this beo4 AV9000 is one of the very first one way versions, it still has the  bottom amp part with software 1.1 as  the old Av9000 i had.

I'm hoping swapping the circuit board with the software chip from the early Type 43/03 and fitting it in the later Beo4 version will make the later set 2 way operational.

Has anyone done this with success?

Do i need to swap anything else between the 2 sets? i believe there is some difference in a teletext board, but as i dont use teletext i carnt see that being an issue.

thanks,

Phil

You might also (99% sure) need to swap the IR module. The old 2-way has the sender IR-diodes also. So unless they had a lot of the old 2-way ir modules  and used them, you will be missing the sender diodes.

Beomaster 3500/8500 is the 1-way versions of 4500/9500, but these versions are only different in terms of software, so it is easy to make the 3500 2-way buy just changing the SW-IC, I have done this lots of times :)

So you need to have a look at the IR module and see if it has both receiver and sender diodes..

I tried doing the same thing a few years back. If I remember correctly I had to move the teletext board over as well - otherwise it wouldn't turn on! Other than that I don't remember having any issues although I could be wrong. Thing is, that I had two AV9000 at the time + an extra chassis from a GB version (I live in Denmark), and I seem to remember, that I used parts from all of them in order to get it working. I know I swapped the power supply from the GB version over in one of them, but that had nothing with the two-way issue to do. But yes, the IR board could be an issue as well - I don't remember changing it though, but the AV9000 I fitted with the older SW and teletext board is a preproduction that had been upgraded at some point, so it probably had the two-way IR hardware all along.

P.S. Beware of ESD and high voltage in general.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, where abouts is the IR module board situated in the back of the set can you remember? and also where abouts is the software chip board situated?

I'm going to start on this on the weekend all being well.

I might be able to help you with this. As far as I know have all the av9000`s the ir transmitter. If not, maybe I have a spare one. The software is located in a metal box. Remove the back panel of the tv, pull out the internal "drawer", fold away the sides, fold away the back part and you will see a metal box. This metal box can be unplugged and removed. When you open op the box you will find an eprom with the software. Note that you also need a two way remote. Maybe I have a spare two way software module for the av 9000 as well. Not sure whether you need the older text software..

Good luck.

did not read your post well. You already have the software from the old av9000
