The 8-40 is not mentioned at the official B&o-site?

Would be sad, I think it's a recent and already classic design with 'MX'-qualities that could be upgraded if needed.

Is it still a good deal second hand? Or goes time that fast in the flatscreen world/development?

I responded earlier today but as usual the answer was lost due to the super slow server.

Yes, the Beovision 8 is discontinued and it has been for half a year. The BV8 is now replaced by the new BeoPlay V1. I think the BV8 had a design that while it looked good was quite bad since it takes up much space and has very limited mounting possibilities.

The V1 is much more flexible and thinner, with updated technology and a better price point. I think it looks much more like a MX than BV8 also.

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

Agree Yes - thumbs up I've never liked the design of the BV8 -and it seems that not too many buyers liked it, as it was discontinued even before its successor came in the shops.

IMO the BV8 will never be a 'classic' like the MX series...but I can be wrong...Whistle

Neither the v1 or Beovision 8, were a patch on the Beovision 6 or crt Beocentre of about 10 years ago cosmetically. Elegant and compact, and a DVD hidden inside.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Yes Chris I had a BC6  very pleasant little TV at the time with a great sound, I remember preferring it to my BeoSound Century. Problem with the 22" screen was that it was total non-directional. What I mean by that was if I was watching it, the person next to me couldnt see the picture very well - I guess a fault of early LCDs maybe.

Hmmmm BC1 was complete bonkers. Lovely design but a 4:3 TV launched at the time when everyone was buying widescreen TVs - what crazy crazy guy at B&O thought of that at the time?  I remember being horrified as 4:3 ratio TVs really never appealed to me.

I really like the V1 but I love the BV10 for its design. But I will wait for the Apple TV next year if it makes an appearance AND what would happen if that TV ever gets a Retina display? It would knock everything else into the history books I guess...   Let's just wait...

There is a principle aspect/truism in life that you seemingly appear to disregard though Paul, with all due respect and in friendship, going from your posts, by what appears to be arguably incessant waiting for either perfection in a product, or the next big thing.

That is, You, me, and everything around us is changing, and ultimately passing away.

If you wait for the next big thing, you may well be waiting for a long time, especially if you expect it to be perfect and have zero compromises....

Meantime, you could fall into ill health, have a serious accident, etc. and as the saying goes, time waits for no man.

By the time Apple launch an TV (if indeed they actually do - remember it is all thus far speculation and nothing more) LG and Samsung etc will have OLED sets on the market, to say nothing of the Sony/Pansonic alliance to develop and manufacture OLED TV's and to counter the market thrust of the Koreans - against this backdrop Apple would have a very hard road to hoe in terms of technology - it is they who would be on the back foot with an outdated retina LCD display.  If Apple do release something special on the market, it is more likely to be in the order of content and easy access to it via their software/interface IMHO - which could equally be offered in the likes of a 'professional' as against 'hobby' Apple TV.

Generally speaking, a TV will last these days for around 7 - 10 years, rather than 10+ years in CRT terms, due the speed of advancing technology.

If one waits for the 'right' product, perfect in every detail, you may be well waiting forever.

Same goes for partners and relationships.  I've seen a number of friends remain unhappily single because they're too uncompromising to 'put up' with either real or imagined flaws in a potential partner, when they don't grasp that relationships are all about compromises at their very core.

And with 'gadgets' and consumer items, we often have to accept design and operational compromises.

If you need or want a new TV/Gadget etc, and have the means - then by all means buy one IMV - there's never going to be a better time.

And it beats worrying obsessively about minute details re a product, as against just enjoying what it has to offer to hopefully enhance your life, whilst accepting it's weak points, and meantime expanding your life in other equally or perhaps more satisfying directions.

I sincerely hope you don't accidentally misconstrue my remarks as some sort of overt criticism, as they're not meant that way; rather I very much speak from personal experience as I've also vacillated a great deal myself over the right time to buy, but do in part sense from your posts, similar concerns over buying the 'right' device, hence my comments.

Jump in Paul..... the waters good....Big Smile

Kind Regards

John... Cool

Yes, I totally agree with you John! I really don't need a TV at the moment though as sitting on a sofa, I have a terrible problem of being able to do so for less than 2 minutes before I run to the gym or jump on my mountain bike! Call it late 20s/early 30s mid life crisis or something but I now have the problem of just not even being able to watch a movie - I constantly have to be doing something! I'm travel mad these days, so Apple toys fit my lifestyle very much and the BeoPlay A8 is what i'm saving for. In my free time, I represent a Pro Bodybuilder/Fitness model and that is now requiring a lot of travel to South Africa with Barcelona championships planned in November - which Im really excited about.

As I said on a previous posting, my MacBook is averaging up to 15 hours of use a day at the moment :) :) :)  Life is really exciting though...     So in the early new year a BeoPlay with Yellow & Orange speaker covers will be mine...........
