Got some info on the coming "B&O Playmaker". Supposed to replace the need of an Apple Express.

  • Hiqh Quality DAC
  • Intended to be placed visible, with possibility to e.g adjust volume with a "wheel like" interface as Beosound 3.
  • Possible to connect speakers. (B&O speakers I assume)
  • Airplay capable.
  • Possible to command with a Beo4.
  • In store pretty soon as I understand.

Anyone can confirm or add to the list?

Anyone seen pictures?

Will this be the first, and new, Airplay Beonet for multiroom placement?

Probably the successor of Beolink?

Looking forward to it! Streaming music through the whole house, no cables, and a perfect sound with the ease of controlling it with your BeoRemote.

Let's wait, see and hear . . . Very interesting!

The Beonet project has been "postponed", from what I understand from several dealers and there are going to be some intermediate solutions...

I forgot all about that! Well, they are clearly taking their time and perfecting the product. After all, we wouldn't want any tonearms that skate across records or decks that spin the wrong direction!

Yes it is real and I have seen it. It is a white box with touch panel for volume adjustments and it has powerlink.

By the way, apple has released a new tighter airport express with two Ethernet ports instead of one, and dual band wifi.

Thanks Michael.

Do you know more about what it is supposed to do?

Is it supposed to be attached to the wall?

Does it work in addition to a Beolink Active, does it replace it?

I think B&O is moving rapidly away from master link but I am not sure. It looks looks like a pizza box but smaller and on a pair of "legs". I think it can sit in a wall like the bs5 and lie on a table.

Yea I like the new AirPort Express, looks very much like an Apple TV but in white, and with a green led in front instead of white.
I have just gotten a glimse of the playmaker so I can't recall exactly how it looked. Just that it was a pizza box design. Flat and perhaps a few centimeters high. Tilted like a BS5 would be.

It is not an AirPort Express since it is not hosting wifi or doing other router-things that AirPort Express does, nor does it share printers. It is just for AirPlay and sending music wirelessly to power link speakers.

So I think the Playmaker is like a Beoplay A8 without speakers but with powerlink sockets. Correct?

Clever...

What would be good is a sort of passthrough... For example you could connect this box between your Beolink active and the speakers, so you could use your speakers for AirPlay streaming or for listening to you B&O source.

Yes, Phil. This powerlink passthrough could also be used for connecting a Beovision. So if watching TV you hear the sound of the Beovsion and if you want to listen to music via Airplay you can use your IPhone/IPad/Ipod touch (instead of connecting an Apple TV to Beovision).

EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reckon that will take A LOT of the few BS5 Encore sales!

I'm really pleased for this new product whilst my friends and myself love the BeoPlay A8 / BeoLit12 and it's AMAZING for us with our bijou city loft apartments, there are people with spacious cribs were B&O loudspeakers are needed etc.   Sounds very cool! Maybe we will see a B&O small loudspeaker aimed at the laptop listener.  BIG ROUND ONES like the BS8 :)  that would be funky!

A combination of an Airport Express/Sonos and an external DAC would be great!

I have read all the posts (up to Paul's) and was surprised that no one saw some similarities (except for the shape) with these recent Google leaks:

what with Microsoft announcing yet another attempt at getting into music distribution it seems like the pace is really hotting up.

I spent yesterday re-organising my AV/LAN world and afterwards had a box of audio cables, LAN cables, and mini-routers left over.

Can't wait for a product like this from B&O and I can start removing more wires and gaining greater flexibility.

Hi Elephant :). Honestly I really am sad to see that all Google does today is copy. They where innovating, now they just duplicate. The streaming box, what is that? A crippled Apple TV combined with the features of Spotify. And the speakers look nothing more than any speaker in any hifi-store.
Nothing interesting for me at least :)

oh I agree Michael - nothing of personal interest for me either

but business strategy, competition, etc do interest me

and when the alpha gorilla starts throwing its weight around I personally fear for the impact it can have on our beloved B&O's future

If the Playmaker can do everything that a Sonos ZP90 can do, it would be VERY good :
- NAS content playback (not only Airplay)
- Synchronised playback from a NAS with BS5/BS5E
- Weekly programmable on/off times

Also you can install and synchronize multiple Playmakers in your home as long as they share the same network.

now what would be excellent is if this is a wireless masterlink box that could replace a beolink active.

This is sounding better and better. Looking forward to this device. Anyone have any idea of the price? I'd need three!

So in effect this means that BS 5 Encore will be soon discontinued? With Playmaker, people can control their B&O music hub with, say, iPhone or iPad and enjoy their portability. Where would Encore fit in after this, with its price tag that's about 7 times the price of the Playmaker? I'd rather select my music and view album art on my iPad, anywhere in the house.

I like the fact that these cheaper new B&O products make some of their more expensive existing products more or less obsolete, and at a quick pace (hint of sarcasm there). Time to sell the Encore. Oh, and time to sell BeoSound 8 as well, as the new dock connector of iPhone 5 (or the new iPhone) will soon make the BeoSound 8 useless. I guess I need to upgrade to BeoSound A8.

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.
