Hi, my name is Brian, and after wanted to get into B&O equipment for a long time, I've finally started.  I just finished up a degree in design, and B&O has always appealed to my stylistic sensibilities.

I recently purchased a Beogram RX with MMC5 cartridge at a local record shop.  I have it temporarily setup with a little pair of KLH bookshelf speakers, and a denon receiver.  I want to get a B&O receiver and speakers to round out the set.

I realize it would be better to pair the speakers with the reciever, but I don't have too many leads on a B&O receiver right now.  I do however, have some leads on speakers.

Currently I am looking at a pair of S45 (I need to confirm which of the S45s they are exactly), a pair of of RL 6000s, a pair of RL 140s, and a pair of S75s.  They're all of a similar price range.

I'm looking for opinions.

I am worried about repairing foam rot and or capacitors, and how much that will cost.  I am not actually shy from DIY, I build museum exhibits for a living and have built my own 3d printer, but I am trying to figure out:

  • the likelihood of foam replacement (and sources/costs, which I'm trying to figure out, looks like $30ish bucks for an S45)
  • the likelhood of cap replacement (as above, source/ costs)

My music room for now is likely to stay my office.  it's a small room, so I don't need mega loudness.  Even if the equipment were to move out into the living room at some point, it's still small, I live in a 900 square foot historic house.

I may have a lead on a beomaster 3000 receiver.  I also have a lead on a Beomaster 3300 (2953).

Thank you for your time, all opinions welcome!

I wound up purchasing a pair of S45-2s.  One of the pair definitely needs some work-- it's quieter and not as "crisp" as the other.  Now I need to research re-capping, i know that it's been discussed on this forum many times.
