How would you compare the M150 speakers with the MS150 speakers?

I read all the specs and can guess how they might compare, but I would appreciate knowing for sure.

I need to know ASAP as emotion got to me as well as my respect for the seller and I am actively bidding on a pair of M150’s.

Having owned and enjoyed both types, I decided to sell my M150's and keep the MS150's.

They just sounded better in my opinion, very balanced, with a beautifully transparent mid- to high range, and an effortless low end.

But - like everything - it will be a personal taste and choice.

The big difference, as I see it, is the sub-woofer in the MS series produces more bass and wouldn’t you know it, bass is what I am after.

I have been chasing the M-series speakers (M100 and M150’s) for well over a year. Found a pair in Quebec but the seller wouldn’t budge on his $1,800 price, so I passed.

Recently found a near mint pair of M150 speakers and over the last few weeks communicated with the seller vis-à-vis his overly high selling price.

On his third price reduction he said he just couldn’t sell them for any less and I thought, do you really want to miss this chance over $100? So I bid on the speakers.

Only then, if you can believe this, did I decide to check the specs and “refresh” my memory that the MS series has the sub-woofer….. and thought, oh good grief, did I just make a big expensive mistake?

I have little doubt I will appreciate these speakers for what they are, but I am a bit concerned that I might have been better off waiting for the MS series to show up on eBay.

If you guys feel there is a huge difference in bass reproduction in these two series speakers, then if there is another bidder I was just allow myself to be out-bid and start over.

If you guys feel that there is a difference in the bass, but the M150’s bass is more than adequate, then I will react to competing bidders.

Thanks for your input!

Jeff

I have owned both M150s and MS150s. I no longer have the M150s but I do still have the MS150s!

Don't get me wrong - the M150s are superb loudspeakers but the MS150s are a huge step up again. They do everything that the M150s do well just that little bit better and their bass is superb. It's unusual in that you may well listen to something you know well on them and think that they're a bit bass-light. Then a PROPER bass note will come along and you'll realise just what you've been missing!

My advice - hold out for MS150s. It may be a longer wait but, I promise you, you won't regret it.

Thanks Adam,

Oh boy, when I screw-up I go for the gold. I have been actively searching for speakers in the M-series family for nearly two years, which is a long time for unfulfilled expectation.

Suffice to say I am a “sucker” for pristine condition items coupled with frustration on many (unrelated) fronts, so with clear-headed judgment brushed aside I bid on a pair of mint condition M150’s.

But only now do I notice how frighteningly similar the M150 speaker configuration appears to duplicate my much loathed bass anemic MC120.2 speakers. What an unexpected and blood chilling prospect! Angry

Now I imagine there are differences between the MC120.2 and M150 speakers besides being another foot taller, but it looks like they have more in common than not.

I am currently seriously hoping to be out-bid before the auction ends.

After years of bemoaning the shortcoming of my MC120.2 speakers, what do I do? I go out and buy the same speakers on steroids. Guys, this is SO bad that one day in the distant future I imagine this story will be good for a hearty laugh.

I live for analogies and how I feel right now is like the scene in “Peggy Sue Gets Married,” where Peggy Sue goes back in time to have her father gather the whole family outside to see a “surprise” on the street, and he had just purchased an Edsel….. to which Peggy Sue burst out laughing, “Oh Dad, you were always doing something like that, you bought an Edsel!”

Well I haven’t bought the Edsel yet, but the auction clock is ticking……

Why not retract your bid explaining that you were looking for the MS150 model not the M150 model?

eBay no longer has this retract option. I even Googled how to retract a bid and you can’t.

You can always email the seller, explain the 'mistake' and ask for understanding, hoping he might be willing to cancel your bid voluntarily.
