I'm seriously considering buying a Beolab 19 subwoofer.  I love the design.  I know that the specs aren't hugely powerful for a modern sub but for those of you who have one, what are your thoughts of it?

Beovision Avant 55 , Beolab 8000 , Beolab 6000 , Apple TV 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Sky HD, Mac Pro, iPad Air, MacBook Air

I have had one for a few months and use it together with two bl12-3 (front), two bl 12-2 (rear) and a bv10-40. When watching movies it is beautiful. When listening to music (bl12-3 + bl19), it is extraordinary. I had never heard anything which could be so precise when reproducing bass. And its power is more than anybody could need, even in a very very large living room (80/100 square meter). Watching movies such as Birdman (music is entirely made of drums) is an experience!! And then it is simply a beautiful object to look at, from any angle, from any perspective... Just gorgeous!

I agree with Paolo

I love mine - the family sometimes complain that the bass is too heavy - they're sonic wimps Devil

I have mine sitting next to the BV8 rather than the user. It's complemented with BL3 fronts and BL4 rears.

I am interest if Paolo's positioning gives a better experience ...

How is it compared to

BeoLab 2? I've been considering a subwoofer and slimmer/smaller BL speakers instead of BL9. Perhaps it can be done :)

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

I've never listened to a BL2 but I have been told they are very loud

The 19 can go loud you just adjust the settings. I keep it reasonable as I like warmth and no boom except when watching something like Black Hawk Down and that's when I don't care about the neighbours. Surprise

Well, I would describe the bl2 as incredibly powerful, by far beyond anybody's needs (as for example a Bugatti Chiron is), but not at all as detailed and precise in reproducing every shade of bass as the bl19 (as an Audi A8 is much more capable of giving you the comfort you need at any usable speed) does.

So, if you want something that is brutal, incredibly powerful for its size even if not as detailed as you would like it to be and entirely made of aluminum, then go for the bl2. If you want a state of the art sub, with more power than you could ever need, clinically detailed and refined, and with a beautiful shape from any perspective, then your choice should be the bl19 Big Smile

Thanks for the advice, I'll consider it. I'm still waiting to get my beolab 9 back from service. Been waiting for over a month now.

Interesting!

I find the BL19 looking a bit bulkier but perhaps it's not?

Paolo, I always fall in love with your apartment. It's true style :) Do you have any art in it?

"Brutal" is an incredibly apt adjective to describe the BL2. It is one of those things you have to experience to understand, it is just so powerful, and seems to add something to anything you throw at it. One other thing to consider is that the BL2 acts as the crossover in a setup, the L and R speakers are supposed to be connected to the BL2, where the BL2 sends only what is necessary to the L and R Beolabs connected. I'm not sure how the BL19 handles things.

Art on the walls or paintings or large photographs :) I'm obsessed with vintage surfing photography (LeRoy Grannis) and the photography of Slim Aarons. My house is covered in his work :) As you can see, I love vintage / retro. Having sold my Audi A3 sedan a while back, I really like the Fiat 500 Vintage 57 :)

Then I suspect you wouldn't like our 20 pieces hanging on our walls with perhaps another 10 waiting - should we start an art lovers thread ?
