I have just bought a Beocord 1200 reel to reel tape recorder.

It is in really nice condition and working but I have a problem in that it runs too fast on playback. It runs at 19 even when 9.5 is selected.

I did manage to get it running at the correct speed, not sure how I did it, but when I rewound it reverted to 19 again and doesn't want to play at 9.5.

Any ideas would be really welcome, thanks.

The internal mechanism for activating the speed switches often seize in dry lubricants.
It will need cleaning and fresh lubrication.
It sits to the left of the left reel table.
(Unplug from mains before taking the deck apart!)

Thanks for the quick reply, Martin.

I see where you mean and will investigate. It does appear to be sized.

Yes, that was the problem.

The linkage had seized through dry grease. I managed to free it up using switch cleaner and it now works perfectly.

Many thanks for the advice, Martin.
