Hello,
I recently aquired a BV7-40 MK2 plus BL7.1 and a floor stand in perfect condition for a very good price from a private seller.
He also gave me SW 7.94 in original sealed boxes.
Is it save to update the software myself with these two eeproms or has other software to be updated too ?
This is the currently software installed:
AP 7.5
IOP 22.0
STB 3.8
STAT DISP 1.0
AC3 2.50a
DVB 1.9.9.0
Kind regards
Martin

What part of the other software has to be updated ? AC3 DTS ?
When replacing the EEPROMs the TV also needs to be flashed with the corresponding SW by a dealer. Only replacing the both chips won't work.A good idea would be using the latest SW + EEPROM (30.08a) if you are spending money for an update.
BR,BeoMotion.
As far as I know the latest software for the MK2 with standard dvb hardware is 7.94 according to Keith's product revision database.
Involving a dealer to update the whole tv is more expensive than the price I paid for the tv itself. The problem is that the dealer has to come around, what you to pay too, to do the update. It's too complicated to bring in the tv.
AC3 update seems to be another eeprom update, as it also have a part number, right ?
The thing is to make the update by a dealer as quick as possible. I mean everything could be prepared to make it less expensive.

Hello Ralf,
it's not updating just for updating a device.
It's for being ready for future use before updates aren't available from B&O anymore.
This happened to me with my Beosystem 2 MK2. The latest version of the software isn't available via B&O retail system anymore, but with it, it would be easier to integrate the Beosystem 2 with my Panasonic Plasma and the other devices and speakers to have a complete 5.1 B&O setup.

Hi agan,
your TV has the old non-HD DVB module fittet?Only the 30.08a includes the latest software features. E.g. PUC menu overlay on DVI sources (if you hit menu it will switch to analog, show the menu and switch back to digital afterwards) and the possibility to deactivate the integrated analog tuner so that the TV-button can be assigned to any external STB. The 30.08a is officially only meant for TV's with DVB-HD but will also work on TVs without DVB-HD.
I never tried it on a TV with the old DVB module. Since this is pretty much useless these days, maybe just unplug it if it doesn't work. If you also want to change the AC3 EEPROM you have to open the TV anyway. Be prepared to unscrew a lot of screws - that thing is quite buried :-)Changing the main SW IC's is much easier. You have to remove only one screw and take of a little cover to gain access to the sockets.
Hello BeoMotion,
are you sure that SW 30.08a will work correctly on a BV7-40 MK2 without any dvb module connected ? I'm asking because my dealer refuses to install this update, as SW 7.94 is the latest official version for the MK2 without DVB-HD module. I told him, that in case it wouldn't work with the standard integrated dvb-s I would simply disconnect it.
Is it possible to assign TV or DTV to an external dvb-s receiver with SW 30.08a ? I want to have it the same way as in my living room. It's easier for the wife
Hi Martin,
yes, 30.08a will work correctly even if no DVB-HD is connected. Had this combination several years before upgraded to a MK3.Just do a factory reset after installing and flashing the SW. The TV will try to detect a DVB-HD module for about 30 seconds. If there is no answer from the module the TV will accept this and continues first-time-setup. Afterwards you can even assign an external source to the TV button if the integrated analog tuner is disabled in menu. DTV is also possible.
I really have no idea what happens if the older DVB-S module is installed an the TV is updated with 30.08a.
The right version should be 7.94 (both chip and flash).
Does the 30.08 require also a 30.08 chip? Or will the 7.94 also be sufficient?
What happens when you install the 30.08 software and you want to use the BV in a link setup (eg. BV in bedroom)? I can imagazine that watching sources by link will not work as the tv tuner is disabled?
The 7.94 has some software improvements. The AC3 with 3.01 is only a chip on the soundmodule. No flashing needed. It would respond to digital PCM stereo. But it never worked here.
Remember doing that with a MK2 lately - with no HD-tuner built-in.
The external DVB-T2 tuner was connected via scart (and puc'ed) and DVI and set to respond to TV.
The ATV4 was connected using a HDMI to Component and Coax Converter (and puc'ed) and set to respond to DTV.
The owner and - especially his wife - were very happy with that!
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks for your answers guys.
I'm pretty unsure of what to do, update to 7.94 or 30.08a ?
Viewing sources from the main room via masterlink is not required as I don't have any video link cable installed.
Regards
Yes, 30.08a also requires the both 30.08a EEPROMs.Never used video sources in the link system but I suspect it working since disabling the analog tuner has nothing to do with whether there is a DVB-HD or not.
30.08a gives you the advantage of showing the PUC menu on DVI/HDMI sources in case you forgot the mapping.Ask your dealer to have a phone call with the technical support if he is in doubt.
Thanks BeoMotion,
does SW 30.08a require new eeproms or can it be flashed on the current 7.50 eeproms using flash tool ?
Some minutes ago I called the B&O technician, but I forgot to ask about the above. As two PUC tables, on my BV7-40 and a BV6-22 shall be updated to support current Technisat receivers, the technician has to come around anyway.
The overall price is much lower than I expected ...

ok, as BeoMotion stated before, yes, both eeproms 6IC03 and 6IC02 have to be exchanged and can't be updated to 30.08a.
What's with the AC3/DTS eeprom ? Can this be updated to 3.01a with flash tool ?
Does the technician has all software on his laptop or does he download all required software when he's at the customer's home ?
I'm asking because I want to avoid any occuring problems.

If the technician doesn't have the correct SW on his laptop or don't know what to do -> it's not your problem :-)

Ok, this is what I expected.
The technician told me on the phone that he can update ALL software, Main, AC3, DVB and DVD,,on my BV7-40 with it's flash tool, no need to order any new eeproms.
He's wrong. From the mk3 version it's BS3 based. Then it is possible to flash all the different parts in the BV.
Yes, if you have a MK2 you HAVE TO change EEPROMs.
If your technician still says that he can do it without replacing them maybe he does't know what he is talking about...
Ok, I will phone him again tomorrow and tell him to order the required eeproms prior he comes around.
What other hardware except the main sw eeproms and the ac3 eproom will I need to do a complete update ?
It's sad that a B&O technician has so little knowledge about the products
Another question about a BV6-22 I have in my guest room:
I want this little beauty also completly updated to get rid of a software problem. What parts do I need here ? Is a PUC update possible with the flash tool on this unit ?

1. The software for the BV6-22 requires replacement of EPROMs, but I don't think they are available to order any more.
2. The M2 module can be flash updated (with the service tool) but the M2 software version that should be installed is determined by the main software so it is unlikely any updates can be applied without installing new EPROMs first (see 1.)
BeoIce:Is a PUC update possible with the flash tool on this unit ?
3. Finally some good news... Yes, the PUC can be updated with the service tool.
Martin.
Hello Martin,
you're right. The BV6-22 Eeproms aren't available from B&O anymore.
Then I have to live with the problem that I have to turn on the unit with the TV button instead of the DTV button directly.
Turning on the unit with the DTV button turns the unit on but after 3secs. it turns itself off.
Turn the unit on with the TV button, waiting 3secs and then press DTV works. A Technisat dvb-s receiver is the only source connected.
BeoIce:What other hardware except the main sw eeproms and the ac3 eproom will I need to do a complete update ?
Do you have a hint for me where the AC3 Module is located ? Can't find useful information in the service manual.

It's PCB32. The one with all the power link connectors. The AC3 IC is mounted on this PCB.
Changed the Main SW and the AC3/DTS SW eeproms today. Was easier than I though.
While having the back opened I cleaned everything with a brush and a vacuum cleaner and now the TV look like new
The local dealer comes around on tuesday to update M2 Software and to add some newer receivers to the PUC table.
Will report back if everything is ok then.
@Beolce
Congratulations, you're in for a treat
The 7-40II is a bit of gem, especially with the BL 7-1. Throw in an Audio CD and enjoy!
Although not full HD it has this nice warm tint, compared to the newer revs.
And Personally,- I am a sucker for the RED display,- and of course the options the cinema output provides!
Thanks BEOVOX141,
you're right, the red display on the BV7 looks very nice combined with a BS9000 next to it.
The B&O tech just left my home after updating the BV7.
M2 Boot Information on display still says 7.50a. We updated M2 two times and flash tool reads M2 7.94 from the device.
I also did a complete Factory Reset myself too.
Is there anything wrong ?

Another sign that your technician might not be that experienced with those TV's.M2 BOOT is just the bootloader that loads the main SW. This one is never updated and will always read the old version. So everything is ok except for the fact that 30.08a would have been the better choice.

Indeed, M2 Boot never changes. It gives you the option to see whether it was sold as an original HD ready BV, or as a upgraded SD version with sw 6.x
These are probably the same technicians who end up with a dead BV as a result of programming BV in the wrong order of needed steps

I do like the red display either. But am not really convinced if I changed my mk3 Penta displays with the same red matrix from the BS9000, that it will look better. The green colour of these are "softer" to watch
@Beobuddy
I couldn't agree more
My B7-40 MKII is now up and running.
I connected an external dvb-s receiver and an atv2 via a geffen hdmi switcher (thanks to leosgonewild) and everything's working fine.
Pictures will follow ...
Another question: Are the eeproms the same for the BV7-32 MKIII line ? I'm asking because I will get a BV7-32 MKIII soon, which I want to update too.
Yep.
