009 jpg.732985Well, got a TX-2 and it would appear the stylus is toast. How do I remove it to check out closer?  Will enclose a pic showing what would appear a bunch of scratches/marks right under the stylus in the plinth.  Looks like it got slammed down a number of times and smooshed the stylus :(

Thoughts?

That's the correct way to do it.  Try twisting the cart while pulling it out.

Did it myself and don't know why the shop couldn't do it.  Oh well.  To me the stylus looks like toast :(

Got a SMMC3 from SoundSmith and the table sounds pretty  nice.  I would surmise that a mat is out of the question??

Never use antistatic- or other mats on Beograms.
They will put off the tracking angle and they won't improve anything.
B&O platters are metal already and furthermore they are treated with an antistatic coating from factory (and shouldn't be washed).

And yes, the stylus on the other cartridge is bad. If the coils inside the cartridge are still good, the cartridge can be retip'ed.

(And please don't link to something on a website that requires membership and login to view).

Thanks for the info!  Will keep the other cart just in case but the one I just got has a nice one year warranty so that's pretty cool.  Just going to press the TX2 into work and see what's what...:)

Am getting a hum, only in the left channel though...would this most likely be a wiring issue or is it possible the cart is not inserted far enough into the tone arm?

Make sure the ground wire of the TX2 is securely attached to the receiver chassis.

Turns out its one of the rca plugs.  I wiggled them around a bit and the hum stopped.  So can I just do a cut and splice on the rca's or is there a way to replace the rca's from inside the table?
