Greetings, I'm new to the world of B&0 and have acquired a few items, including a Beomaster 5500 along with it's MCP 5500.

I am having the classic "rotary encoder" issue. I have searched the forum, and found many answers, however I am still unsure as the the issue, so I am asking here.

1: MCP communicates with the Beomaster, all buttons and functions work except for the rotary dial.

Symptom:

The dial has no effect on the Beomaster. When using the dial, the display is blank, the MCP does not "wake up" Reading other posts on this subject lead me to believe the switch was bad.

As a result, I have done the following.:

Tested the switch for continuity, tested the wiring from the board to the switch, tested the connector on the board.

In short, the switch seems to be working fine, I have re-soldered all switch connections.I have tested the switch, manually activating the poles, I have even gone so far as to temporarily bypass the switch and jump the connection,  yet the display still does not activate.

As far as I understand it, any movement of the dial, will cause the switch to activate. since it appears my switch is good, and the display does not respond, I assume my problem lies further down.

Also, I have not found a safe way of removing the PCB, I have removed 2 screws, yet it is firmly attached and I do not want to break anything.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Michael

Nobody willing to offer suggestions?

I tried searching the forums, in most cases, according to the posts I've read, it appears that if the display does not light up when the dial is used, than it means the switch is suspect, and if the display reacts, but there is no change, than the optical sensor is bad.

I have the first symptom, in which the switch does not activate the display.

However, I have verified beyond a doubt that the switch is good. This leads me to believe I need to look further down the line.

Any suggestions, or if anyone can even tell me if a schematic for the MCP exists, would be greatly appreciated.

This is the correct diagnosis with the normal cures. I have never had a faulty MCP that did not respond as you suggest.

I am sorry but I cannot help any further, except to say that a schematic exists on site and is available to Silver and Gold members to view and download. I suggest that you upgrade to at least silver (£15 per year) and get access to our entire library of user and service manuals.

It is contained within the Beomaster 6500 Service manual as I recall.

Good day.

I have a MCP 6500 that is doing the same. The microswitch measures less than 1 Ohm when closed by the dial, yet the MCP will not wake up.

Did you find your issue. I would be interested to know how you fixed it, as it might apply to mine as well.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

If you found the solution to your problem, I am interested. I have a MCP6500 with a micro switch that reads less than 1 Ohm when closed by the rotatry dial movement, but yet the MCP will not react. I might have the same problem.

Thanks in advance
