I am considering to buy a BS5 or BS5E. Have a few questions about the feasibility to integrate it into a multi-room setup:

1) In absence of ML, I assume this is not possible with the BS5E, but very easy with the BS5? I can just connect the BS5 via ML with my BV7, which is already in multi-room via ML/NL converter. Assume ithe BS5 is the also automatically in?

2) Can the BS5 act as DLNA client or is this only feasible with the BS5E?

3) I remember there were some issues with BS5 and alac files. Is this also an issue when streaming alac over DLNA?

4) Can I distribute spotify from the BS5 to multiple rooms?

5) Does the BS5 also support Deezer, TuneIn?

6) Does the airplay work-around still work (installing shariport)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Steve

steve1977:

Yes, you can add it to the ML network and distribute the audio to netlink multiroom devices via the NL/ML converter. Bear in mind that masterlink can only carry one audio signal at a time so you can't distribute sound from a BV7 source to one NL room whilst also distributing sound from the BS5 to another (unless you also add a second NL/ML converter).

Whether the NL/ML converter would need to be reconfigured depends on which ML role it is currently assigned.

The BM5 can act as a DNLA client / renderer.

I don't know as I've never tried. You may be able to configure your DNLA server to transcode on the fly to say FLAC if this is an issue.

4) Can I distribute spotify from the BS5 to multiple rooms?

Yes. The spotify client on the BS5 doesn't support spotify connect though, so you can't control it from a mobile / tablet device.

steve1977:
5) Does the BS5 also support Deezer, TuneIn?

No to both. BS5 does have internet radio (N.RADIO) though but it is not based around TuneIn.

No idea, sorry.

Hope the above helps.

Kind Regards,

Martin.
