Hello,

First of all, greetings from Spain. I´m new to Beoworld.

The thing is that I just bought a Beomaster 5500 to use it with a Beogram CD 5500 (both in white). Today I could try the Beomaster using a Philips Universal Remote Control (SRU9600) and I found out these issues:

1.- When the CD 5500 is connected to the receiver CD DIN connector I cannot get sound on the right channel, either through the speakers or headphones. The same happens when I use the tuner.

2.- When the CD 5500 is connected to the AUX-RCA output connectors I get sound on both channels, either using loudspeakers or headphones;

Would anyone help me out with this matter?

Regards,

Daniel

Strange issue...

When you say you connect the CD player to the AUX outputs what do you mean?

Can you post a picture of the back of the amp showing this configuration?

Thank you for your reply.

I mean the CD player is connected using a DIN to RCA adapter to the RCA-TAPE 2/AUX outputs.

By the way, when inserting the headphones plug all the way to the middle position I have sound on both channels through crackling noise.Once the headphones goes all the way to the end, I can get no sound on right channel -always in the same scenario: cd player connected to amp DIN connector.

Follows picture...

Schematic is here.

Based on your description, several inputs not working, including the tuner input, but a working  AUX,- My prime suspect would be IC1 solderjoints!

What happens if you put the CD DIN connector in AUX ?

Thank you Beovox.

Very good question:"What happens if you put the CD DIN connector in AUX ?"

And the answer is: No sound at all, this time, on both channels.

I was suspecting on cracked solder joints too.

One more thing: Is it normal that the volume output of the RCA Tape2/Aux is much lower than the CD DIN connector? For instance, normal listening volume with the latter is around 22, while with the former I have to go up 34 -both with loudness on, loudness that I would be more than happy to turn off.

Connectivity issues are common with older audio equipment. I had problems on my Beomaster 5500 and 5000 receivers where I had to resolder the back panel connections.

You do realise that the CD player should be in the sockets below don't you?

That's a line output not an input... I'm surprised you get any sound whatsoever using those sockets... I suppose it could be bleed through.

You will get sound out of both headphones if you do that... You'll find that you are getting one channel in both sides though not the usual left and right.

What have you got plugged into the pre-out socket?

One thing to try is muting and un muting the system several times to clean the muting relays. I'm not sure where they are in the circuit on this amp without checking... I have a feeling they are on the power amp side but it might help.

Thank you Sonavor.

I think that might be the more plausible diagnosis.

@ Lee

Resoldering the panel...

I know,- been there, done that,  but it doesn't  explain the issue being on the tuner input as well ?

Thank you again, Lee.

I do realise that the CD should go in the sockets below. That was my first connection this morning and just a few minutes ago with the same result: no sound, even with headphones.

Again, I only get sound when connected to the RCA Tape2/Aux outputs.

I´ve plugged two subwoofers to the pre-out socket. Not anymore, because I can´t stand loudness + subwoofers  working together.

By "muting and unmuting the system several times", you mean doing manually with the remote control, right? If so, I would do it later.

Press the muting button on the right hand front of the amp several times. You should hear the relay click on and off.

Done. No results.

@mvdventura

Can you confirm full functionality, if the AUX RCA output is used for input?

If so, your problem is somewhere between the input of IC1 and the output of IC2,- since the AUX out happens to connect to the output of IC 2.Smile

Right now I´m listening to music with the CD 5500 connected through the AUX RCA output used as input.
