Comparing Teac to B&O, do you not get I am making a comparison between good and rubbish?? Stick out tongueThe Mini Cooper ('01-'09) is the villain of the piece. It's the worst-rated supermini, due to a Reliability Index rating of 162 and average repair bills of £392.

you dont no much about audio systems either, very uneducated statement to make.

if £5000 for a teac esotenic cd player built like a tank is rubbish, you know more than me.Teac are renowned for good quality hi-fi,have you ever seen or listened to their hi-end seperates

"Why has mazda sold more mx-5s than tt,z3/4,slk.boxster"

Now  that's a tricky one - they're a LOT CHEAPER and drive well, but still a tin can!!

Who cares if the mini is the most unreliable?  I never said it was.  Still have one any day over a bland Koean box that is reliable, but boring as hell.

It's called PASSION!!

All the people I know that have them have been 100% happy and love them because they have character, are fun to drive and SOLIDLY made (panels).

Teac seperates - 1% of what they make great.  99% is throw away rubbish!!

B&O 100% great!  Only their cheapest stuff (a few items) are made in China

Holden re-badge Korean junk now for many models, instead of previously using Opel models, and got crucified by the motoring press for going all cheap and crappy, over a good drive/better car (Opel).

Opel is now selling cars under their own label in Australia.

This is Great - Australians have some more great reasonably priced cars to choose from instead of Korean tin can junk that has flooded the market here, that ONLY sells over the Japanese and European cars because it is a lot cheaper, definitely NOT BETTER!!!  FALSE ECONOMY!!  Generally, all the people that drive the Kia and Hyundai cars in Australia are young girls who want a cheap run about, or retirees that want a new cheap reliable car.  Good luck to them.  I drove a girlfriends new Hyundai that she walked into the showroom and paid a lot of money for (optioned to the max, full sticker price - salesman's dream) and was not impressed.

Either was her husband! (she bought the car without him, she cares nothing much for cars - like most that buy Hyundai, they just buy for price and reliability, not PASSION!!  Where's the PASSION??).  He cracked it and put it on the market straight away, reason being if they kept it, the resale value is terrible, so he thought best to cut their losses ASAP!!

Personally, if someone was to pay that much for Teac, to me they have rocks in their head, but each to their own.

Teac are renowned for good quality?  You have got to be kidding me.

99% of what they sell is bottom end of the market throw away junk (like Korean cars - sorry, I had to get it in!  WOOF WOOF!!  Grrrrrrrr!!).  Stick out tongue

There are much better audiophile brands in my uneducated opinion. (I am trying, I am!!!) Stick out tongue

I owned a black MINI Cooper from new a few years ago and it was the most reliable and beautifully put together car that i've ever owned. It had the Harmon Kardon sound system that puts the B&O system in my Audi to absolute shame!!!!! I've never driven a car that was such fun to drive and indeed own!

I covered over 50,000 miles in it in its first year and not once did it have a problem. Only disposables in 50,000 miles was 2 front tyres at 28,000 miles at £150 a tyre.  ZERO serving cost as it had the 5 year TLC service pack at a bargain £150.

My company car is now an Audi A4 S line black Edition. Nice grown up car that does everything perfectly but without a heart or soul!!!  The B&O system is VERY VERY flat sounding and not really good enough for the B&O name!

Speaking from experience, the MINI is truly a superb car with low fuel emissions, 50mpg from the petrol engine, incredibly cheap to run, safe (8 airbags) and loads of character.  How I wish the Audi had the fun loveable personality of the MINI - it's very dull and boring to drive in comparison!

You guys mentioned TEAC! Their pro division is TASCAM and I really can assure you that they are TOP QUALITY products. Apart from Pioneer with MacBook Pro's, they are the only brand that we can rely on for broadcast / studio use. They constantly deliver and meet incredibly high expectations both in performance and reliability! In all fairness, here in the UK, TEAC products have over the last 30 years been highly regarded. I still find it amazing that hifi is debated on a B&O site as, as much as I love the brand, it is very very much a lifestyle brand and until recently isn't true hifi, although i'm sure B&O addicts will disagree.

sounds great fun ! and economical !!

certainly a better deal that the 10 yo Volvo with 100,000 total kms that just cost me 3 grand in repairs

maybe I should regress and buy a Mini instead of an Audi seeing as we are almost a two trunk family again

I agree with you 100%.  I have used Tascam products.  They're great, but they are not  for Teac's mass market.  Like you said, they are designed for Professional applications / muso's etc...

Teac for Australia's domestic consumer market must be different than Europe.  We must get the scraps that Europe doesn't want.  You'll have to trust me on that one.......

Paul, you understand the concept of passion over dull.  Wunderbar!!!  Smile  Glad you loved your mini!  Get another one as a weekend toy!!

BMW minis are minis for the modern market. The Mx5 is a superb car that spawned a whole new love affair with the compact sports cars, and I wish many 2 door rwd sports cars were in the same price bracket here (compared to the us market).

The Alfa mito is nice but its no dissimilar to the mini. The name me too is for the me too generation. There is no individualism anymore, it's all just marketing speak, so thinking

Just reading this post from scratch, In my country your sexual orientation is mutually exclusive to the car you drive so if you feel that it is you need to get out more and get in touch with yourself.

Whats next... thinking pink is anymore than red and white combined? It's the colour of flesh, of life and what it would look like if the Denmark flag was put in a blender.

Did anyone see that the new mini paceman debuted at Paris? I can't wait for it to come to Australia.

I test drove a mini a little while ago and it's a little cracker. From a styling point of view I would like different rear lights and I think their packaging lines are great.

I appreciate that there are many purists that love the original, and the original beetle, the original range rover, but these new models have bought a whole new generation to continue with the same love affair (albeit different reference points) that you once did.

teac have won loads of awards for their compact reference systems in the uk and at £1000 I wouldnt say throw away junk. They are better built than a plastic beosound 4.I never said they were the best,I own a high end linn system aswell, which is in another league, but they are not rubbish.
As for kias not hlding their money, like I said I buy and seller 100s of cars on a daily basis and believe me they hold their money better than alot of german cars, and a kia sportage holds its money than a bmw x3.
Look at a new top spec kia ceed or optima, the spec and build quality, fit and finish,is no different than a golf or passat.I understand passion for cars and like fast cars, which kia dont make, its not their market yet.
I agree will paul w about his audi, they have never been renownes as a drivers car except rs models, you pay for the badge its no different to  skoda octavia, passat.
what do you drive by the way? a yute lol

Absolute drivel! I suggest you clearly know little of the history of the brand.

B&O, in hi-fi terms, have at times been at the very top. They produced the first stereo cartridge in Europe, they devised the HX-Pro system for recording, licensed by Dolby and I note used by Teac.

The Beolab 5000 system introduced in 1967 was a world leader - the tuner being used by many radio stations as a broadcast monitor. They have the largest private acoustic chamber for testing speakers and the Beolab 5, introduced in 2003 (not very recent!) is widely acknowledged as one of the best loudspeakers one can buy.

In addition, the ergonomic design has made hi-fi accessible by those not interested in a myriad of buttons. You will find that many users of this site have left behind so called audiophile systems recognising many of the claims to be the Emperor's clothes.

Teac does indeed produce some excellent equipment - my brother in law had a Tascam set up in his recording studio - but it was not suitable for a domestic setting. As with all manufacturers, Teac produce both good and average equipment. B&O in their time have done the same.

Peter is quite correct - in the 70's and early 80's B&O were often in the real hi-fi mags - Alvin Gold etc praised their gear up no end . They had the looks as well as the sound !

The beocord 8000 with doiby hx pro was considered arguably the ultimate cassette deck at the time - in the same league as a Nakamichi. They've made plenty of serious hi-fi since , look at the Beolab 5 !

All the stuff I've seen made by Teac was crappy midi systems.

My memories of Tascam are of a brand that sat in semi-pro recording studios and they then made it big by inventing the cassette based portastudio which really kicked off the bedroom recording industry. I don't they ever threatened big names like Otari in major multitrack studios.

At which point in the broadcast chain are you listening to music, because the output of a typical commercial FM station has be compressed to death to suit listening in cars and small portable radios etc.

Ban boring signatures!

I don't discuss everything that I own.  It's tacky.  I'll give you a hint.  It's German.

No Holden for me my friend.  They're as bland (but not as tinny) as those Korean cars. Stick out tongue

And Gentlemen, I am talking mass produced Teac, as we have in Australia.

I have never for YEARS seen any upmarket Teac equipment in any HI-FI stores (general and upmarket) in Melbourne for MANY years.  (I am talking many).  Mabey they do not bother with this market as it is so small, so we must just get the scraps.

"Try a bmw with run flats thats road noise"

Of course if you drive a BMW with flat tyres, the car is going to have road noise!  Any car would.  How has a car with flat tyres got anything to do with the topic?  Are you sure you sell cars?

Evening everyone. Just a few comments-

Its hard to take sides, get involved in this conversation but a few things should be pointed out. Whether they help or not, I'm not sure. At any rate:

For all of the Teac naysayers, have a look at ESOTERIC. Esoteric is the high end product line of Teac, seems to be something everyone has missed here. This looks very Hi-Fi to me (and I'm not judging by looks).

Regarding the standard Teac brand, it seems they are thankful B&O are around, after all, the B&O ICEPower modules are hard at work in their 'REFERENCE A-01'. Look at the first bullet in the specification page, B&O are listed first. In other products, corners are being cut. Low bit-rate CD players, small PSU capacitance and opamp-based preamp sections. The latter 2 problems happening in a $3000 USD integrated amplifier!

Re: Mini Cooper:

As a 21 year old, I naturally like the Mini for its dynamic potential, however, as an engineer I dislike it. For one, a car as small as the Mini should really have a closed front bulkhead, safety is the number one priority of that chassis, not ease of manufacture! Additionally, it seems there is a lot of potential for 'weld creek' and compliance in the side structure. There are no less than 5 structural panel weldments for one side of the monocoque! There is no excuse this couldn't be reduced with further stamping processes.

Minis are not cool, were I live there is loads of young girls in them,as they all copy each other.Like every man and his dog with iphones, its sad when alot of people copy each other.I would rather have a alfa mito than a mini.

Dont even get me started about men and minis, thats even uncooler and says something else about you.lol

Thats why b&0 appeals not everyone will have it,regardless of price,as minis are so overpriced.

This is a typical i-opinion!

Thinking about the MINI……….. these little colorful eye catchers make me a happy person! They spice up the roads in my opinion.
Each time I drive my wife’s MINI to the washing place I have a BIG smile. Give the MINI a thorough cleanup with the sponge.

My wife jells Hi Hi each time when she starts the MINI, she drives with a big smile. Large cars with grey suit drivers give here space and let her go in advance. (Before the MINI, driving in an Audi this was less the case)

That is priceless positive energy.

Regards, Robert

Slightly different perspective for UK drivers - my friend's son drivers a "proper" Mini ................. it quailifies for classic car insurance and so is an absolute bargain to run compared to £2K+ insurance premiums for any other, newer "supermini" class car from any other manufacturer for newly qualified drivers.

Plus it has retained all it's "coolness" even after all these years.

Hi evan mentioned this range earlier on in the post,I am not even comparing b&o to teac, its just the comments about teac being rubbish, which are not true.I 100% love b&o but dont buy it for out and out sound quality,I have a seperates system for that hidden away.I buy B&o for the integration and waf factor, also it sounds decent enough, but I know myself a highend teac system with speakers would sound better.

Steffen.  Wise as a pop star.  There ain't no voice there though!!  Her performance on the Queens jubilee concert was terrible.  All the back up singers were pretty much matched to her pitch to cover her (vocally.)  Her Majesty must have been shaking her head or falling asleep in disgrace thinking what has become of the younger generation!!  I can't believe she is still around!!  Melbourne is quite tiny.  Her family home is nearby.  I often see her mother shopping locally.  I saw Dannii the sister not long ago shopping with bubba.  She was all done up.  She actually looks stunning like a doll.  Stunning eyes!! She's wise in the way that she has control of her career and her money - she has never thrown money away, like so many other pop stars who has gone bankrupt several times - despite their million $ earnings. She has never made big scandals. And she IS good looking Smile

I haven't seen the Queens jubilee concert you are refering to -maybe she had a bad day. Or maybe you're just biased against her Stick out tongue Wink
I have sen other concerts where she can actually sing.
