Wish to restore recently inherited turntable, whilst | am an electrician this is out of my league.
Upon powering up, the stylus arm drives to the centre of the spindle Which componentry should I start with?
Scags
BC6000? Is it a BG6000? (Beogram), I'm expecting, you tried with a record on the platter. Otherwise the arm searches for it and returns to rest.
Chris
Thanks Chris, With a record in situ the arms drive to the centre of the platter (well onto the paper label). The left arm lamp is illuminated quite clearly.
I would appreciate help with this problem as I am 900k north of Brisbane Australia and the Beoworld agent there has not returned my call.

Hi Ray,
well, so you try to fix it by yourself? Or you find someone to give instructions.
The record detection is kind of interesting. There is a lamp you already have seen and the reflected light is received by a photo-cell. This sounds not very tricky, but the platter plays an important role! When the platter spins and the sensor is not over a record, the black stripes generate a pulsing signal (sort of ac voltage). In your case, there might be an ac signal even with a record on. It thinks, there is no record and moves further on.
I suggest a ripple on the supply voltage >bad capacitors/elkos.
What equipment do you have for repair?
Broken sensor elementBad lamp/sensor alignmentWrong wattage lampBad sensorarm alignmentBad solder joint at edge connectorElectronic fault
A scope to the signal path would tell it all.
