Beolab 5 - what to look for?

I am about to buy a pair of Beolab 5's (an old dream is about to come true) and I would very much appreciate advice as to what to look for when I go and see (and hear) them.

The right way to move a BL5 is by handling the biggest disc, only.

If someone tried to carry it by taking it by the base, its fingers may have damaged the deep bass loudspeaker --> have a look below.

Also check that the microphone is moving correctly by running a calibration.

And of course, listen to various musics... using Powerlink and S-PDIF if possible.

Ok, so you're actually able to lift the entire app. 60 kg. speaker by the biggest disc only?

When you say look below, is that because there is a picture or?

I'm most likely getting the speakers home for listening before buying, which will be great.

I'll be using S-PDIF as a connection!

I can't say whether 'you' can or can't.

Whenever I had to move these speaker, we were two to do it.

Yes, this disc is robust enough for this, but you'd better be two to lift one BL5 !

No, it's because you can see the loudspeaker membrane from below.

If you plan to use a non B&O player, you'll need a Beo4 remote to set the BL5.

But two persons would then lift the speakers holding only on to the biggest disc?

Sorry disregard my above post, CB answered my question about the disc.

Yes, I'll be using it with non-B&O I think, so you are right, I have to get the remote.

Just out of curiosity, does B&O's power cables transport a digital signal or a analogue signal?

 

Yes, this is the right way to do it.

There's a groove beneath this disc that avoid your fingers to slip.

The Powerlink link is analog.

I just found this link https://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=800 which also mentions exactly what you say ("...the handy ring lifting point under the lower lens disk.)

In the above mentioned article the author says:  "Including connecting them to two separate Belkin AV Pure surge protectors – an investment which I hope I will never need to rely on."

I hadn't though about that before, but doesn't that sound like a good idea?
