Hello. My dad bought a used Beomaster 5000 (type 2321, probably from 1984) which according to the guy, who sold it for a friend, should work just fine - the very weak response to both of the remotes was excused with old batteries. The Beomaster only didn't work as it should, as it, as mentioned, has bad response to both of the remotes (MCP 5000 and Terminal 5000). The Beomaster doesn't send back signals to the MCP either resulting in a "No transmission" (IR-transmitters checked). I've read some threads about this on this forum and therefore ordered a new set of capacitors to replace the old at IR-board and the 100 µF-cap at the Power Supply - hoping it will fix the issue.
The Beomaster does, however, have other problems; the most serious one being the fact, that the only button working on the flip-down panel is the "Store"-button. I just today replaced the silly, partly broken, thin cable to the flip-down panel with a decent flat cable - unfortunately without any luck. I simply need the flip-down panel just to be able to switch the "Loudness"-button off, but I simply don't know where the problem is?
The last problem is that there is no sound from the Speakers 1. It does, nonetheless, play in the headphones, if I plug in a pair. There is also sound if I plug the speakers into the Speakers 2 speaker-exit. I've tried the mute-button on the MCP5000 and I can hear the relay "clicking" - no sound, however. Having measured the speaker connectors, I know they are fine, and the soldering looks fine. Could it be a relay somewhere?
I hope you guys can help me. Thank you in advance!
Stefan
I have a very simulair problem where none of the buttons on the flip down panel respond. The only button that does something is the store button. I have no MCP to test if that would work.
My beogram works fine and there is sound coming out of the speakers. Controlling the volume doesn't work either.
Did you find a solution to your problem?
Flip down panel problem :The ribbon cable to the panel has broken.
Speaker set 1 constantly or intermittently muted, sometimes comes alive if the volume is a bit high:Bad muting relay.
Martin
He Martin,
Thanks for your reply, you seem to know a lot about the beosystems.
So you suggest to replace the ribbon cable? Is that something i can replace myself without soldering? Any tips?
Second question is; can i still be able to adjust all the settings when i aquire an master control? Does it have to be an 5000 or 5500? (i have a beomaster 5000)
Much Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Yes, I actually managed to solve the problem. If the flip-down panel fails to "flip down" when pressing the button, this is due to the relay construction. As the capacitors get old and tired, this construction doesn't work - whether it is due to a too small delay time, bad signal or whatever, I don't know. However, I replaced all the capacitors on the PCB placed behind the displays (the CPU-board, as far as I remember), which solved this problem as well as the IR-receiver/transmitter issue.
As Martin mentioned, the lack of connection to the flip down panel buttons is probably due to a broken ribbon cable. Simple replacing this with another piece of ribbon cable can do the trick - I replaced it with success. I can't seem to come up with a solution that doesn't require soldering, and the tricky part in replacing the cable, is to get access to the PCB inside the flip down panel, but it should be possible to replace and resolder the ribbon cable.
I did this on two Beomaster 5000 with the same symptoms as you mentioned and it seemed to work just fine.
You, unfortunately, cannot set all set all settings with the MCP 5000, as e.g. "loudness" can only be switched on/off on the flip down panel. I believe you have to get the MCP 5000, because B&O, as far as I'm concerned, changed remote communication, so Beomaster 5500/6500/7000 all can use the MCP 5500 etc., Beolink 1000 and Beo4. I'm not entirely sure on the last bit, but I'm pretty sure, you cannot use the 5500 MCP.
Good luck with the project!
