hi all,
I recently recapped a beomaster 1900-2 with Martin's set, and changed out the lightbulbs while in there.
When starting up, I had it play for half an hour, and checked the idle current before closing her up. Everything looked and sounded great!
I only noticed that FM preset 3 and 5 (big wheel) don't make a sound when i had already installed it in the livingroom again.
bummer :)
The stereo light and tuning indicator work when scanning the band on these presets, so the tuning portion works. When cranking the volume to the maximum i do hear a little bit of the station signal in the speakers...
Now, before opening her up again, i'd like to discuss with you guys what the culprit could be.
Since it's a challenge opening and closing these things, i'd like to go in with a plan :))
Any ideas on where to start? Maybe someone encountered this problem already?
Kind regards!
Jan
Did you also replace the lamps?
Martin
Yep, i did
Did you fit the exact correct type and wattage lamps? Was the fault also present before you started work on the Beomaster?
Hey Martin,
I fitted your lamps, caps and regulator, so i hope they were ok :))
Everything worked before changing out the caps and lamps.
don't know if this is worth to mention, but one of the new lamps blew upon first powerup. The lamp of preset 2.
I changed that with the spare you provide in the kit and it has been good since....
Sounds very strange. If you weren't that far away, I would have asked you to ship it to me.
Strange indeed... i'll have a look into shipping costs to denmark, but with still 3/5 of the presets working, i don't know if it is still worth it :))
your first hunch would be lamp related? The switching part still works fine, the tuning part aswel if you ask me (looking at the tuner indication)
Got ideas? Shoot :) I got time to experiment :)

These Beomasters are very sensitive to correct lamp wattage. The lamps in my kits are correct.Having said that, the muting activates while switching sources, so the interaction between the sensing, switching and the muting is quitea delicate balance. I have seen a few cases where even correct lamps caused the muting to activate due to marginal and/or slightlyleaking transistors etc.I also remember one case where a wrong type of transistor had been fitted by a previous "repairer".So yes, the lamps are in focus - as are the above mentioned circuit interactions.
The fact that one lamp actually blew at first power up could point to other problems, - but then again, it could also be as simple as a lamp glass envelopedamaged in the post.I could send you a couple of lamps and some fresh transistors, that would be easier and cheaper than sending the whole Beomaster.Email me.
