I thought a thread about all the new TV´s on Video Engine 3 (Android enabled) should have their own thread. I read that the new sets will feature a Direct LED-panel instead of the current Edge lit panels (or local dimming on the 75/85" Avants). As far as I know Direct LED mean that the LEDs are placed on the back of the panel instead of by the sides. However, I am not sure about wether it features a local dimming feature or not. In most cases Direct lit implicate that all the lamps operate at the same zone - in that scenario it would be a global dimming that affects all the LEDs at once instead of individual zones. I am not sure which choice B&O has made. If they have local dimming and backlit on all the models, that would be a huge improvement. If they just changed edgelit local dimming to backlit global dimming then its a jump backwards in all steps but two - uniformity and maybe also higher brightness possibilities in bright room environments. The fact that Bang-olufsen.com only specifies local dimming on Beovision 11 and BeoVision Avant 2014 makes me believe that they in fact went with cheaper panels for the BV14/Horizon and possibly also the upcoming Avant NG. There is a tv - and there is a BV

Usually 'direct lit' does not include 'local dimming'.
Much more important than specs to me is, how the tv/tv's perform with the usual mix of sources in the home.
Waiting for more real-life reviews from Beoworlders ;-)

Exactly what I meant Millemissen :). If so then that sounds like a strange decision to me. And B&O is not writing anything about it themselves so buyers should be aware before they make a trade or buy one - in case picture quality is affected. Specs is important to how a tv performs :).
Duels:I may be being dumb here but has a new avant 55 actually been announced and if so how does if differ from the existing one?
It has not as far as I know, but it will come
That is called the BV Avant/NG.
Also described in the video/Youtube link above.

That is also what I wrote Millemissen :)
Aussie Michael:I asked at the dealer and they said the 14 and the Horizon were edge lit. I thought they said the whole range is edge lit. This means to me that the dimming is separate?

I'm not so sure they are correctly informed unfortunately.

Aussie Michael:Ok
Do these TV support 802.11ac Wifi ?
beotex:Any chance we will see the Horizon or BV14 in larger sizes? Or is it only going to be the Avant for greater than 55"?
Can you imagine how big a BV14 in more than 55" would be?
I guess the Horizon will be kept in these sizes to stay a 'lower' prize tv.
Maybe - if it turns out to be very popular - a 55" would be possible.
But - really - noone can answer that question - not even the guys in Struer, I suppose.
Do remember that it won't be long before we will see the first B&O/LG tv's - they will (without doubt) be bigger than 55".
