Room 1:
BS 9000, MKI
BL 8000
Room 2:
BV 7-40, MK III
Devialet Phantom (Optical in)
How can I connect these som that i can listen to CD, TV and Spotify (Devialet Spark) in both rooms?
Thanks!

Hi pjop,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I was in discussion with Devialet early after the Phantom was launched, with a view to helping them integrate this superb speaker with B&O products.  On testing this in their Harrods store, we found that the Devialet electronics introduce a substantial delay to any audio that is fed to the speaker.  This is fine for music listening in most situations, but this became a major problem for TV and movie use.

I discussed this with Devialet's technical support team, but at the time they weren't in a position to adapt their software to reduce or remove the audio delay.  Things may have changed since then, but I would urge you to test this or speak to Devialet before committing to this setup.  If the delay is still there, this is likely to make the Phantom completely unsuitable for use with the Beovision 7-40 (or any TV).

In my personal view, this is a great shame, as the Phantom is a superb speaker and a real joy to listen to.  If anyone else has used the Phantom with their TV more recently, please let me know, as it may be that Devialet have resolved the delay issues since I spoke to them.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi pjop,

I am wondering a bit how you had thought of using the Phantom???

Using it as a speaker (for the BV7) would be difficult - I see no analog input on it, that could be used for connecting via PL/adapter. (OK, you could an analg to digital converter - but i would not advice doing so).

And when used as a speaker (which it basically is), you would not be able to listen in to it in Room 2, either.

It has no output (analog or digital) - the optical is an input connection!

This means you would not be able to connect 'its sources' to the BV or the 9000, either through the analog- or the digital/coax input on these devices.

I am afraid, that I see no possibilties to connect the Phantom and the B&O setup ;-(

Hi MM,

There is always a way to make the connection Cool

The main problem is the audio delay within the Phantom software, unless Devialet have fixed this, then using the Phantom with a TV would be pointless as the sound and picture won't happen at the same time.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks for all the response.

But IF Devialet has fixed the delay. What do I need to connect?

Hi pjop,

The delay was SOOOO bad that I think we need to check this first, before committing to a setup that relies on the Phantom for TV listening Sad

I will wait for updates from any other Beoworlders using Phantoms before I advise further.  Thanks for your patience.....

Kind regards, Steve.

Which way would that be in this case?

Hi MM,

Either with an analogue to optical converter to the Phantom, or via the Devialet Dialogue interface is the usual approach.  This works fine for audio (as long as you don't need to have non-Devialet speakers playing in synchronisation with the Phantom).

I'm hoping that either Devialet or another Beoworlder will be able to update me on whether the Phantom's delay issues have been resolved (I know of at least one Beoworlder using the Phantom regularly).

We can then come back and look into this setup in more detail once we know this is viable without delays.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,

yes, as I mentioned above (but did not want to suggest doing).

But the external AD conversion would probably also create a delay.

You are right - let us wait and see, if a B&O/Devialet user turns up.
