Hello everyone.

I'm thinking about upgrading my SKY+ HD box to the newer smaller SKY+HD DRX 985 1tb. Are there any known issues controlling this box with Beo4/STBC and are there any picture quality/sound issues?

Thanks for reading.

I've seen good reviews of this box. The only thing that really worries me is that it is Amstrad which with their history is rather horrific. However, Sky owns Amstrad now, so maybe, quality control is better?

Having said that, I had the Samsung Sky+ HD box and it was very temperimental. My previos box, a Grundig is still performing amazingly at 13 years old!!!!!!!

Funnily enough, the early Grundig digiboxes had notoriously unreliable power supplies, to the extent that when they failed all the necessary parts were widely available as a complete repair kit.

How bizarre!  Mine has been absolutely super and has seen about 11 house moves in its' time!  The Samsung constantly crashed & recordings would display 'Failed'  DAMN!

I've got a Sony hx recorder and one rather irritating problem is the fan comes on all the time and makes a dreadful racket. If you have it in your bedroom I'm sure it will soon annoy you.

Personally for my satellite recordins over the last few years , while everyone else in my house has the dreaded sky boxes ,..unreliable garbage... I've got an elgato freesat USB box that I attach to my mac . It gives you freesat in HD as well as having a really nice EPG that you can control with your iPad etc.

I'd seriously give that consideration. Plus you can trim the recordins easily etc. I love mine.

Does this receive Sky sports?

No , but have you seen the junk on sky sports recently ? If youre not into football forget it. Even their other coverage sucks. The BBC golf coverage s vastly superior and even stuff lie darts is interrupted by ad breaks every 5 minutes.

Weve only got it in our house as one of our clan is a rabid Andy Murray fan and watches tennis24/7. I wouldn't I'd but eurosport and Bbc coverage of that is just as good as sky too.

Persoally. I think sky is overrated unreliable expensive crap and much prefer freesat combined with the Internet as my av  entertainment.

Yar, I agree Flappo! Interesting to see that Sky 'Now TV' will be on the Apple TV platform along with Amazon's streaming service! I loved Eurosport years ago and Screensport! I loved Rush TV before it vanished from Sky. I upgraded to Sky+ HD and within weeks my favourite channels had gone!!!!!!!!!

Out of interest guys, I cancelled mine four months ago and on Friday I got a letter from Sky offering me half price subscription for 12 months (£10.75) AND £50 off my bill!    Not appealing to me though as im 100% iTunes these days AND we sport, I can't watch it - I have to be participating in it!

Shouldn't have a problem - the IR commands are the same.

Hello frog.

Many thanks for your reply and keeping it on subject!  All I have to to do now is haggle with SKY for a better discount!
