Hi All,
I've seen this topic around for a while, what are the dangers of using reservoir caps with a higher capacitance than orignial. But it seems to depend on the device how far you can go and what the relevant tolerance is.
Im half way through a 4400 project and it is time for the reservoir caps, and i have a more or less good fitting pair at home, the problem is they are 15000uF instead of the original 10000uF.
Would it be reckless to put them in, or is this within safe margin not to blow the transformer? (or cause any other damage/issues)

The rush-in current at power up is the problem.The filter caps load the transformer and particularly the rectifier quite drastically.
10.000uF is absolutely adequate - and what the rest of the Beomaster was built for.15.000uF is quite an increase. It would be overkill and, as said above, could lead to problems.

I though I could save a buck or two, but I'll take your advice and order correct value new ones.
For another Beomaster I need 5000uF but they seems hard to come by, is it then better to choose 4700 then push it upwards to 6000-6800?
Even 20% range will only yeld 6000, but I guess there is some margin on the diodes in the rectifier etc...

I have used 4700 uF instead of 5000 uF in several BMs, no problems, went one step higher on the voltage

Well well, in anycase, its not too bad..it friday evening , while I wait for new caps I perhaps find out what that white wine my wife bought looks like from the inside.
