What might the problem be on my Beogram 5500...?

Here's a summary of what's happening:

The turntable was going fine, then it just stopped, but I could still hear the motor whirring quietly. I pressed the red dot button to return the tonearm to its off position, but it didn't budge - it's stayed exactly where it was when the record stopped playing and I can't move it by hand or with the little < > arrows.

I carefully opened the top.

The buttons clearly work - I can press 33 and 45 and they register on the indicator arm (although there is no movement in the arm or turntable).

The motor that drives the large belt is slipping inside the belt as the turntable is stuck, but the motor continues to spin in the same way when everything is on standby (pressing 45/33/45 makes the motor spin faster/slower/faster as expected whilst the turntable remains still). The second motor also operates and turns the small belt. The solenoid on the main board also activates when I repeat the switching on, but the lever it tries to activate does not move.

All the belts are in place, nothing appears to be broken visually,

I believe a mechanical mechanism has jammed somewhere.

Any ideas? This has appeared in this forum some years back, but no answer was submitted

Thanks in advance.

I just fixed  a couple of issues with my 6500 turntable, one of which sounds similar. The sprockets which drive the turntable snap in place by pressure and the plastic peg which they snap onto expands at the top, and a small tab or ridge at the top holds the sprocket in place keeping it from sliding up.  One of the tabs holing the sprocket broke on one side, causing the sprocket to drift upwards just slightly out of alignment and the turntable would lock up.  I had a spare turntable which I could violate to fix my issue but was considering using a cotter pin.

It's a fine line between collecting and hoarding, and I'm always dancing on it.  Beomaster 8000 x2, Beocord 8004, Beomaster 6000, Beocord 9000, CDX, Beomaster 6500, Beocord 6500, Beogram 6500 CD, Beogram 6500 Turntable, BeoSound 2300, BeoSound 2000,  BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2 Sub, BeoVox S45.2 x4, BeoVox S75, BeoVox S120, BeoVox M150,  BeoVox MS150, RL140, BeoTime, BeoCom 1
