The next step for my collection, is I think a Tangential BG, but reading the descriptions, I find out that the BG 5005 does not have the good sound of the BG 5000, I wanted to use it for my 5000 stack system, So to fit the look of the 5000 stack, I took a look at the TX2, that one is nearly same build as the BG 5005, but if it has the same sound quality as the BG 5005 its also a no go, I love my BG 5000 and only if I get the same quality as it has, or better, will I go for the TX2.

Now, I have a good working BM 4000, a BM 2400 and coming a BM 4004, I can leave the stack as is, and go for a BG 4000 or --2 or --4.

Also to consider, with the 4000 series I will have to use MMC 20 series, but I have BG 2404 and BG 5000 using MMC 1-5.

Advice and good clean jokes welcome.

Hi Søren

Haven't you forgot the Beogram 5500? These can be picked up for very reasonable prices at times (Cheaper than TX2's - At least here in Denmark).

EDIT: And remember: The TX2 does not have Datalink!

Can BG5500 be operated from a MCP 5000 ?, and is the sound better than my BG 5000

Or should I just forget about tangential and upgrade my BG 5000 with a MMC2

As the signal from the MCP 5000 goes through the Beomaster 5000, and the Datalink signals are the same, the answer to the first question is yes (You can even control a Beocord 8004 through a Beocenter 2300 and the other way around Cool).

Although I have a Beogram 5000, I can't tell if there's a difference in sound quality between Beogram 5000 and Beogram 5500, as my Beogram 5000 is faulty and hasn't been playing for years, but I can say for sure, that my Beogram 3500 and Beogram 6500 are sounding fantastic with my MMC1 (Beogram 3000, 3300, 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500, 7000, 8500, 9000 and 9500 are all the same inside (exept from the inbuilt RIAA in some) so they sound the same). But I'm sure someone else has something to add here - I seem to remember seeing something on the old forum about the best Beogram made....

But, it's bedtime here in Denmark now (03:45 local time), and I am going to look at (And hopefully also buy Big Smile) some Bang & Olufsen equipment later, so I'll have to get some sleep.

Soren,

In short, probably yes! Many people think the BG5000 is a better turntable in terms of engineering quality and sound than any of the tangentials that followed it - the 5005/5500/6500/7000/9000 etc clones.

I have both a 5000 and a 5005 and really cant tell a difference in sound quality but there is a big difference in construction quality. The Beogram 5000 being a more solid build denser thicker plastics etc. The later Beograms use lighter material and became a bit flimsy. the 5500 which I also have is about the same build as a 5005 the only difference is the lettering.

Thank you to both of you, I will stay with my BM 5000 in the stack, and maybe when my daily allowance allows it, get a MMC 2 from Alex and see if it gets better, but with my damaged hearing, I dont think so Big Smile

Good to see you on the forum again Eugene

None of that matters Soren - my favorite is still the Beogram 1700 with a MMC20EN fitted. Cant go wrong with that setup. Listening to stereolabs "Mars Audiac Quintet" right now on one thru my Beomaster 4000 I recapped earlier this summer.

The 4400 is sitting on the workbench - disassembled. Just waiting for me.

Cant wait to hear my BG 1202 with the SP14 repaired from Axel, my BM 4400 is still in McAllen, come September I will pick it up.

For all the sets I have - and I picked up a Beocord 5500 recently so now I have completed another - I often find the most pleasure just kickin back and listening the my 2400.

My ears just never get tired of that receiver.

Now that you've got both a BM4000 and BM4400, you must get at least one BG4000/2/4.  I haven't really watched US Ebay in awhile, but there seemed to always be a few BG4002s available.

I am a big fan of the BM4000/BG4002 combination, as you know.

The advantage of a tangential is the ability to skip around on the record remotely, where the BG5000 has only start, pause, and stop.
