I felt, that it was very much like the A6 in the handling.
As I already have written above - people will have different opinions on this one.
It is a 'BeoPlay smaller than the A6 product' - not a competitor to the BS1/2.
We will see, when more people have heard it more times - and have grown used to it.
Maybe they then - as so often with new B&O products - will like it more?

as an completely unnecessary aside, i got a BS2 last week, have to say very very happy with it......will likely get one more when resources free up a bit.....not as good as the A9, but difficult to have any grumbles.....lovely design and sound, a good product from B&O i think.....
Looks okay but not like a B&O product. How about handling? Does it have the same bad ergonomics like the A1 or are things like volume control, power on/off etc. easy to operate on the M5?
"Handling"? As in 'Power Handling', or as in 'handling like you're playing with it like a kid does with Lego"?
Anyway, not sure if it's been mentioned, but it seriously just reminded me of the HP Wave... but like most say, gotta hear it before passing full judgment.

Yes, makes sense. Didn't mean for my post to sound sarcastic (unintentional). But I agree,... looking for where the power button is on the A1 is a tad annoying.
Back to the M5, though... it is kind of a cookie-cutter-like shape for a multi-room speaker.
I'm interested to know if anyone can confirm if the M5 is a mono speaker, or if the drivers are angled out somewhat for stereo imaging.

yes it is, though i doubt i'll move the BS2 much.......for its footprint though, it's an excellent sounding speaking, sounds rich, plenty of bass, floats my boat......that said, the BS1 was also much better than i thought it would be when i did a side by side last week.......might test drive an A6 for my kitchen, where i will get rid of my Beolit 12, if it doesnt work for me, then another BS2 in the kitchen.....and then i'm done....hopefully....

Arguable: The sonos speakers, especially the Play:1's are 'fun', sexy and (opinion from friends) stand for quality sound. Especially sexy and fun part are missing for the M5. Even the A6 has some 'sexy' although i'm not bothered. The eccentric shapes covered in fabric work admirable well with the A9..
All products of Bang and Olufsen have this kind of 'sex' on them: Clean lines, aluminium and used to have movement. Artwork. With the Play-line they are (obviously) looking for a new kind of likability (i'd call the sexy'ness). — M5? Nothing of that.
I could list many brands/products in the Play:1 and Beoplay M5 range that do fulfil iconic-brand, accoustic and playfull-sexyness excellence.
i´ve got it at home last weekend as well as the BeoSound 1 a couple of weekends ago. of course you can´t compare them, not pricely, not the haptics, the surfaces etc. pp. concerning my purposes on the kitchen sill the M5 is the better choice. joining the tv-signals and follow the dialogues in the movies while saying hello to the cat is possible at a much lower volume-level than it is with the BS 1 due to the mid-range speaker heading to you. the sound quality with different musicstyles and audiobooks is more than okay (of course the BS 1 is more precise and less strained). for both i can say: the closer to the walls they are, the more boomy they get. but i´m sure there will be possibilities to do some settings in the near future. the M5 is more unobtrusive between the apples and onions on my sill than the eyecatcher BS 1 would be, it does NL, has a RCA mini jack input connection...
last but not least: my better half (and she´s the expert) liked the sound of the M5 more, compared to the BS1

Where you have the BS1, I would be afraid of scratching it and for sure I would loose my sleep as I'm a bit (a lot) ’maniac’ with my toys.
Looks at home amongst the utensils!
The M5 however would soak up splashes and even be mistaken for the kitchen paper if there's a spillage.The M5 does not have me intrigued as I should be with a Beoplay product.

the BS 1 is back at my dealer. it would be really overdressed in my kitchen. hope that my cat won´t use the M5 as a scratchtree
@Egges : do you know if the line in is 'sound sensitive' and can wake up the M5?
line-in has three levels of sensitivity. as alarm you can choose between built-in-tone and your TuneIn favorites. if anything with Deezer or Spotify is possible i can't say for not having accounts there

Seems to me that you are spot on with your 'portrait' of the M5 - and thoughts about the differences M5/BS1.

I've just seen and heard it. Considering its just there to be multi room it looks and sounds fine.
Quite a neutral looking obey that would really dissappear into any room nicely.

Its difficult to give my vision of the M5 if I haven't seen it in flesh, but it seems to me a speaker that could become a big hit for B&O.
As my dealer told me, a lot of his professional clients question him if he could provide some background music with a B&O system for their shops, bars, hotel lobby, etc.. But until now he can't provide a good answer to those clients, for a solution that is not only comparable in quality but also in price level to other similar systems.
This little speaker with the Multiroom function could be the answer to compete with per example the Sonos Play:1 a tiny speaker who has now a great share in this specific market around me and comes at a very attractive price.
I can imagine that B&O has this kind of thought behind the development of the M5 speaker.

And, hopefully for B&O, M5 should be also targeting a broad audience of potentially new customers.
To be successfull at that, M5 will need to impress with sound, design, build materials and quality - be clearly better and more upmarket to justify double the price. Sonos is a market leader in the category (which they "invented" btw) and there needs to be a very compelling reason for people* to go for a non-mainstream brand.

*People outside of this forum who don't have already the B&O AV ecosystem to just add another speaker in.
The M5 is something that B&O ought to give every BV14/Hrizon/AvantNG 2016-buyer as a compensation, when the multiroom sw update finally arrives (in March or so...)

I saw it on Friday and it doesn't really meet any of those variables. Looks ok, but a bit cheap to me (especially the plastic controller), doesn't sound as good as the Beolit 15 (and no way near the level of an A6) and is fairly expensive (I think it was £500 or thereabouts). Put it this way - I bought my A6 for the same price!
The dealer wasn't hugely impressed either saying they'd rather push people to the Beolit 15.

The M5 is not that robust (fabric) and does not feature big third party support. Many proffesional brackets and systems are in place for the sonos speakers. B&O should update their app (outdated and missing features) and the price will be nowhere-near the play:1.
The intent maybe there but the results are not quite there.
