I have a beocenter 8000 and am looking to buy a turntable (TT) to revisit my 70s / 80s indie and punk collection. My questions are as follows:

1. What TT will work best with my 8000? I am told that the 8000 has a pre amp and therefore I assume I just need to cable up to the TT and away I go. Correct?

2. What is the best TT?

3. I have read that the cartridges / styluses / (needles to me) for any B & 0 TT have to be prorietary and will be costly? Is that correct or can I source cheaper reasonable alternatives?

4. My 8000 needs some attention: both the CD and tape doors won't open - I can hear the motors working so assume it is a belt problem - how easy to fix? I was told some time ago by a helpful chap on this forum (Graham) that I need to get new belts and to order the belts for the 9300 as these are available and identical?

5. Common problem: I have lost the remote control - I will not replace this with a horrid pastic affair; can someone tell what model I need please. I remember the unit being quality and classy. Is it the beolink 1000?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Interesting music centre! Not sure I have ever actually see the 8000, which is a more basic version of the 9500/8500. Same basic device though so the obvious deck to use would probably be the Beogram 8500. As this is as rare as hen's teeth, simply look for any of the later tangential decks without a RIAA. The 5500 would probably be the easiest to find. So:

1. BG5500

2. Huge threads exist about this! The 5500 is a reasonable standard and easy to use.

3. True - Axel can retip worn cartridges at a not unreasonable price. Soundsmith can sell you a new one at rather greater cost.

4. True! And not too tricky as long as you are quite proficient at fixing things!!

5 A Beolink 1000 is the remote of choice.
