Hi ,

New here and I have a question regarding a no usage of a Beo4 for about a year.

I have this beautiful system for may years in my vacation home. Is a BeoSound 4000/Overture with a 2X BeoLab 6000.   I been using it very little maybe 2 to 3 times a year. When I am not using it, I unplug the unit from the power and take out the batteries from Beo4.

Last November 2015 I did that. Yesterday, I put batteries back into the Beo4  plug the 4000 to power and noticed that my Beo4 is not executing any commands, absolutely nothing.

Beo4 it seams to work well when I cycle to the "LIST"  (in other words I see the display showing on Beo4) but will  not do anything to my BeoSound 4000.

BeoSound  4000 works excellently using the controls on the face of the unit but not with the remote.

Question? Is the Beo4 possible to loose its configuration for not having the batteries inside for over a year?

Is this Beo4 gone ?  or any recommendations to do to my Beo4 before I look for a new one?

Anybody can help me with some simple recommendations, will be very appreciative.

Thanks George

Two suggestions...

Firstly, you can use the camera on a mobile phone to see if the remote is actually sending any IR when you press a button. Simply point the camera at the top end of the remote and look for what appears to be blue/purple lights when you press a button. IR is invisible to the naked eye but appears very clearly on the screen of a digital camera or camera phone.

Assuming that works, the next thing to check is the option setting on the BeoSound.

With the BeoSound in standby, and with the beo4 pointing at the BeoSound, hold down the power button on the remote and press LIST, then release both buttons. Then press LIST repeatedly until OPTION? is shown, press GO, press LIST repeatedly again until A.OPT? is shown, then press '2'.

The standby light on the BeoSound should flash once at the end of this procedure, and you can then try again to see if you are now able to control it with the remote.

Also try new batteries.

I had the same problem where the Beo4 wouldn't work even though the display was working and showing the sources as normal.

New batteries solved the problem.

Martin,

You are a genius... Thanks so so much !....

I checked the IR with my naked eyes, and noticed a week light. I could not see any difference with my camera from iPhone 5SE.  So I took the other recommendation to change the batteries (regardless that they were new). Light  intensity  on Beo4 looked the same.

Than I follow your recommendations you told me above. It worked and now I am able to use the Beo4 as before. Very Happy !!!

What happen ? why I lost the configuration when other times after removing the batteries and did not used the Beo4 for 8 or 10 months I did not have a problem like this?  When I press that "2" above .. what actually happen ?

Are there any other things I should do for this configuration to make sure all functions work OK ? right now it looks that all is OK....

Thanks so much for the information, and if you know some of the reasons above, please let me know.. I love my system.

George

The A.Opt setting tells your BeoSound what kind of setup it forms a part of, and thus defines how it responds to IR. If your BeoSound was used in a masterlink setup, where it didn't have it's own speakers connected, but instead was connected by masterlink cable to a BeoVision for example, it would usually be set to A.Opt '0'. In this mode, it would ignore any IR signals as it would instead be expecting to receive instructions from the BeoVision via the masterlink cable. I suspect it was this mode that your BeoSound had reverted to.

By changing the A.Opt setting to '2', you are telling it that it is the only B&O product in the room, and that it should therefore respond to all IR signals.

I'm honestly not sure why it switched to option 0 whilst in storage - the BS9000 for example will switch automatically to Option 0 if it is powered up without any powerlink speakers connected, but I don't think the Ouverture usually exhibits this behaviour.

Martin.
