Hello All,
I have just bought myself "a bargain" from ebay.. a beogram 1500 (5714). unfortunately the tonearm pick up wiring has been previously trapped when someone had lifted the tonearm off. is it possible to still get the "pc board with leads"?
kind regards
Ant
pc board with leads 6300063 replacement part.
so with some hunting I have discovered that my tonearm wiring is 39awg enamelled copper, much like guitar pick up cable. has anyone got any experience of this I'd love some feedback.
Hi!
I've replaced the wiring on some tonearms before. I posted some pictures a long time ago, but unfortunately they are long gone: http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/21757.aspx
I also replaced the wiring on my 42VF (same tonearm as your 1500). It's pretty easy - you can unscrew the connector for the pickup in front of the tonearm and pull it out. Pretty big solder spots on there.
Connect the new cables to the old ones and pull them through. If the cables are no longer there, route a piece of wire through there first and use that to pull through the new cables.
I used 0,15mm enamelled copper wire, but you can use whatever is thin enough to fit through there.
I've been using the Beogram pretty much daily for several years now - no problems with the wiring.
If you need more information, let me know.
Type 5714 is nothing like the 42VF.

Oh, you're right, of course. I was thinking of the "other" Beogram 1500...
Anyway, the "newer" 1500 isn't that hard to do either. Been there, done that. Kind of amazing how often people seem to rip out tonearms...
If I remember correctly, you can just access the wiring from the underside of the tonearm. I'm not sure how much glue/epoxy-scraping was involved in getting the old cables out, but I'm sure it was way less than with the MMC1-5 series.
