Essence remote with A3

Is it possible to use an essence remote with a beoplay A3, e.g. to pair the remote with the iPad in order to adjust the volume of the device?

I tried many times to pair the essence remote with an I-device. It pairs, but won't control it.

It does work with some android devices.
