Hi All

I am thinking on buying an Beosound/Master 5 (1TB) version, and probably will in 1 hour :)

Having never had one, and has a spare Beo6, I would like to try it :)

But, can I use my Samsung TV without sound delay if I connect the TV to AUX on the 1611 converter, and use Masterlink ?

I know the USB AUX will not work, but in another thread, Steve writes that the above will work without delay ?

How will the BS5 activate the AUX input on the converter ? are the any options that need to be set ?

Any ideas ?

Hi Weebyx,

You are correct that the USB input isn't suitable for connecting a TV, due to the audio delay.

The only solution to this is to buy a Beolink Converter from a Bang & Olufsen reseller as these are no longer available new (type 1161166) and connect this to the Beomaster 5 with a Masterlink cable: http://soundsheavenly.com/48-masterlink-control-and-sync

There are several options for connecting your TV to the Aux socket of the Converter, depending on the connections fitted to your TV, I've listed these in order of preference:-

1) If your TV has red and white AUDIO OUT sockets on the back (with no yellow socket nearby), this will be the best way to send sound from the TV into your B&O audio system.  These sockets may have a symbol showing an arrow pointing OUT of a diamond shape instead of the AUDIO OUT label.  If so, you can use this cable to connect from the Tv to the B&O system:-

http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/52--2rca-5pd-.html

2) If the TV doesn't have these sockets, but it has a spare SCART (21 pin) socket instead, then you can still use the cable above, but you will also need a SCART to RCA adapter, which can be selected from the options at the link below:-

http://soundsheavenly.com/misc/57--scart-rca-block-.html

Please note that the set of three (red/white/yellow) sockets, and the set of five (red/green/blue/red/white) sockets that are usually to be found on the side or rear panel or most new TVs are INPUTS to the TV, so these are not suitable for taking sound out to the B&O system.

3) If none of the above options are possible, you can use the headphone output into the B&O audio system with this cable instead:-

http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/67--trs-5pd-.html

Please note that this will switch off the TV speakers and that you will need to set the TV volume quite high, typically 75% of maximum.

You can then listen to the TV through the Beomaster 5 without an audio delay by pressing “TV” on your B&O remote control.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thank you Steve

Why are there no delay when using ML ?

Is that because the sound is send directly through to the speakers and not through the sound processing in the beomaster?

My to had optical out, but today I am using it with a beocenter 2 through a converter. I can use the same with the 1611 so this is fine.

Hi Jacob,

Yes, when going via ML there is no delay because the sound doesn't go through the digital processing within the Beomaster 5.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi marexy,

There shouldn't be any changes needed to the Beomaster 5, pressing TV on the B&O remote should activate the Aux input of the converter, as long as there isn't another B&O TV connected to the ML network.

Which version and software level is your 1611 converter please?

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi,

No, each type of converter is different.  Please look for a type 1611 converter that carries the full version number 1161166 on the sticker, this is the only one to use as it is the only version that can act as an ML driver.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi,

It may be the option setting on the Beomaster 5, or the converter may not be the later version that can act as an ML driver for this setup.  The later versions of the Beolink Converter should show the full type number 1161166 on the sticker.

Kind regards, Steve.
