Hopefully someone already has this setup and can let me know if this will work
I’d like to connect a PS3 to my BV5 via SCART and control it via the STB controller (I understand this is possible but requires something additional to change the B&O signal to one the PS3 can understand)
I’m guessing that many of you would have this setup.
My question is – will I be able to watch BluRays and DVDs or will they have a green filter? I keep hearing conflicting reports and can’t find a definitive answer.
If it could only play DVDs then that would be fine (I know I wouldn’t appreciate the quality difference on this setup but some of the extras on certain BluRays appeal)
How would the DVD performance (if it’s possible) compare with my DVD1?
Any advice much appreciated! David
The PS3 will work fine connected to a TV by SCART - including BluRay and DVD - with no 'green filter'. I used to have this set up on my BV3 until the PS3 got the YLOD and stopped working. It will be just as good as DVD1 (which I also have).
The 'something additional' that allows the STB controller to work the PS3 could be the RE-BL. Although I have not used it, this device is listed on my BV3 STB list. It's available from www.re-bl.com, and basically converts an IR signal to the BlueTooth required by PS3.
If you have been using the PS3 with HDMI output, the first time you use SCART you need to hold down the PS3 power button until the second 'beep' - this resets the SCART output.
I hope this helps! Good luck!
Hi Guy, thanks for taking the time to reply - very much appreciated. That's great news! I hope to pick one up next weekend!
Picked up the new white PS3 slim on Saturday and it works perfectly with the BV5!
DVDs look absolutely fantastic and even the text on the PS3 menu system looks relatively sharp (compared to my ATV1 over SCART)
I hired a BluRay movie to test and although it worked I was disappointed with the picture quality.
I knew that I wasn’t going to see anything better than DVD but I expected it to be as good.
However, it’s MUCH worse. Lots of pixilation and jagged edges. Is this normal for a BluRay played on a SD TV?
