BEOLAB 8000 SPEAKERS

Hi would someone be able to help me. Music is not playing on one of my Beolab 8000 speakers the light remains red as opposed to Green.

Hi Nigel123,

Please can you tell us which device the speakers are connected to (eg. Beosound 9000)?  We can then give you help on fixing the problem.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks for this.  The easiest way to test the cable and speaker is to unplug the cables from both speakers and swap the the speakers over, then plug them in to the cables at the opposite positions.

If the fault stays with the same cables, then you are likely to have a cable issue, if the fault moves with the same speaker when it is plugged into the new position, this could be a speaker problem.

It appears to be a speaker problem as there is no sound when I connect the speaker to the other cable. In addition the working speaker continues to work when I connect it to the cable previously connected to the faulty speaker

Hi Nigel,

Thanks for this.  On the "faulty" speaker, please can you check that the mains cord and the Powerlink cable are firmly plugged in.  Under the hinged arm where the cables connect is a small switch, marked "L", "R" and "Line".  This should be set to L or R, it may be set to Line which will stop the speaker turning on.

Please can you click this switch to the middle or top position please, for either L or R?  This may be the reason that the speaker isn't turning on.

Hi Steve

Can confirm the switch is not in the middle it is either L or R.

All leads are securely pushed in.

Just for the record it does seem like an intermittent issue as i discovered the issue Sunday  but yesterday the green light was on then it has been permanently off.

Hi Nigel,

This does sound like a possible speaker fault, as the switches and sockets on the 8000s can get a bit temperamental as they get older.  I would suggest contacting your local B&O store to see if they can recommend a repairer, or you could try Simon at AVA Services via his website www.avaservices.co.uk

Common problem with the early BL8000.

Easy to fix if you are familiar with electronics,but as Steve suggests,it may be better to find a local Engineer with B&O experience to repair this for you.

The "official" view is that one of the internal modules should be replaced,but this is rarely necessary in practice,and the repair can be achieved at sensible expense otherwise

You can fix it for free if you have any electroinc experiance... it's possible foam rot problem.
