Hey I have a MMC4000 which has a bent cantilever. It however plays just fine and sounds pretty good (I have no idea how it is supposed to sound though). Now this isn't that great to begin with but does anybody know if it is a bad idea to keep using it like this? I don't think attempting to bent it back is the best idea in the world.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. It will break or start sounding bad and that is the time. Can it do damage? Unlikely due to very low tracking weight - the stylus might not be at quite the right angle but if it sounds ok, I would leave it alone. Is it it better than the other one?

Thank you for the reply I won't try to bend it back. I really wanted to know if it could do any damage. The other cartridge is an MMC20S which to me sounds worse than the MMC-4000. I however don't know if it could worn, it doesn't sound distorted or anything though.
Definitely don't try any adjustment of the stylus and cantilever yourself. Leave that to the professionals. My usual recommendation is so spend the necessary money on a new cartridge. That way you are assured you are hearing the best possible music from your Beogram (I hope we are also talking about a Beogram here ). Think about it this way, the turntable is responsible for two important elements - platter rotation and the tonearm to place the cartridge on the grooves. While those need to be as perfect as possible I think the cartridge is really the most important. The resulting sound transfer from the vinyl to your preamp is all the cartridge. So get a brand new, guaranteed perfect cartridge. You can send the old cartridges in for examination and repair so you have a backup. sonavor
