I have an ML setup with 3 rooms... If I add an Beomaster 5 to it (without the Beosound 5)...

- Which digital sources can I get with its latest software, is Spotify supported?

- Will one of the Beo app allow me to navigate through the list of songs?

Thanks,

P.

- Spotify worked only with a paid account as far as I know. "worked" because there was some information about spotify changing some distribution policies or s.th. else (I don't remember as I don't use such things).

- Beomaster 5 navigation works if you have a MLGW in your setup.

- Instead of spotfiy you could just use internetradio.

The original BeoLink app shows the BeoMaster 5 connect with cover art and lets you search through the content. The new BeoLink 2 app still has a bug that does not show the content yet. If you have a NL product, the BeoMaster 5 content with cover art is shown as a source for the NL product. However, that is not yet available in the X App.

With a Beo6 remote, you can pair it to the BeoSound 5 (I'm not sure if you can do this with just a BeoMaster 5) and get 2-way communication to see on the remote (with cover art) what is playing and to be able to search through the content on the remote.

Also, if you connect to link room TVs using the modulated coax, you can see and navigate the content on the link room tvs. I never bothered with this since the video link feature was never really promoted here in the U.S. and now with hi def being the norm, the old coax signal is just too inferior.

Yes, that's why I was checking if I could browse songs from an app, as I there will be no attached beosound 5 nor TV.

I think the problem that you'll encounter is that without the BeoSound 5 there is no way to treat the content as audio sources in ML. With just the Beomaster 5, you're limited to control via the PC command and control is done through an IR cable connected from your TV (BeoSystem) to the BeoMaster 5.

The BeoMaster 5 does, however, serve as a DLNA music server if you ever have a product such as a NL product or most modern TVs that can access the content. While not an elegant solution, you could access the BeoMaster 5 through an app on your phone or tablet that can access the DLNA content and stream it from your phone or tablet via an airport express or Google Chromecast Audio dongle connected to your aux input. The Creation app would be great for this. It gives you an interface similar to what you see on the BeoSound 5 screen.

I eventually deleted the Creation app as it got bloated with so many features that it no longer felt like the BeoSound 5 interface. For that matter, you could just as easily access your music library from your computer on such an app and not even need the BeoMaster 5.

In thinking this through, I realized that you would not be able to browse the BeoMaster 5 content on a Beo6 remote with the BeouSound 5. You could need to be able to use the N.Music source. With the BeoMaster 5, you access the content though the PC source.

Some features are only available with the combination Beomaster 5 and Beosound 5.

Among them are the Spotify, MOTS, 2 way Beo6 controlling and server features. Also the A.AUX feature will work with the UCA222 USB converter when the BS5 is installed.

I've installed (years ago) the Spotify Connect software and that still works.

Won't you need the MLGW or BLGW for that?
