Hi guys,

i bought a non-B&O subwoofer which I want to test. I want to connect it with my B&O Playmaker.

I need a utp-powerlink to rca cable for this, which I want to make myself (if it works, I will buy a 10 meter long one from soundsheavenly).

How can I do this? Pinout? Scheme? Can I use a cat5e or cat6 or cat7 cable with already fitted rj45 plug for this (cutting the other side of the cable and solder two rca plugs on the specified wires)?

@Milemissen: Thank you so much for the quick answer and detailed picture.
Where do you find such detailed pictures?

I looked at the pinout schematic, but I don't understand the 'braided shield' and 'blue' wiring.

Meanwhile, I found this picture myself (google). Almost the same, but on rj45 pin7 I see that they use the white/brown wire for signal ground?

And can I use a complete 'donor' cat5e cable for this? Because there is no 'braided shield' on these cables, only 8 coloured wires...

And also found this picture, but here I see they use pin 3 for ground!?!... Geeked

And after another search on google, I found this picture:

Forummember 'Earle' made this and posted it in this forum: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/20599.aspx

I guess this is the best way to make my own rj45 to rca cable,
Downside is that I can't use a donor rj45 cat5e cable, because it doesn't have shielding and the rj45 plug is plastic without the metal housing...

So, after looking at al the different schemes, my question remains:

Can or can't I make this with a cat5e (missing the shielding) cable?

Without the shield you always risk unwanted noise, in such circumstances we have used these;

whether they have internal components that surpress the noise I don't know.

Thanks. Unfortunately the pinout on these converters is wrong:

t/Grn Left Audio +

Pin 2 Grn Left Audio –

Pin 3 Wht/Or Right Audio +

Pin 6 Or Right Audio –

This doesn't match the rj45 pinout on b&o stuff...

Meanwhile I couldn't wait any longer, so I tried a cat5e cable.

I used a stock 7meter cable and cut a rj45 pluug on one einnd.

I soldered two orca plugs to it. Pin 8 brown wire to + left rca, pin 6 green wire to + right rca and pin 3 green/white and pin 7 brown/white together to both rca grounds.

Works 100%!

Connected it from my Playmaker to my beolab 8000's (rca inputs on the 8000's) to test it. Sounded exactly the same as with the original powerlink cables. No distortion or noise.

After this test I connected it to my non-b&o subwoofer.

Works like a charm. Sounds great.

Glad everything worked for you.

FYI the pin outs are irrelavant for the Niles  audio baluns as we are using RJ 45 to phono cables to ensure grounding is throughout, we also can using just Cat5e use a bespoke cable that also includes the B&O trigger signal.

The pins outs are used point to point with the baluns

Anyhow really glad you found a solution.
