Hi everyone. I'm new here. i just picked up a beautiful beogram 8000 from the original owner. It seemed to work fine when testing it at his house, but now It has an issue that I'm hoping someone can help me with. When playing a record, when it gets to about the 2/3 mark on the record, the tonearm lifts and returns to the rest spot. is there any kind of adjustment that can be made, or does it possibly have something more complex wrong with it?   Thanks for any help. It has the very desireable (from what I've read) MMC 20cl cartridge on it. i guess the good thing is that if this table has an issue, i can always sell the cartridge. :-)

It's safe to say, that ll of these Beograms are in need of restoration by now.
New capacitors, repairs to bad solder joints and connections, cleaning of all mechanics and lubrication, new belt etc..
That's very common. I do a lot of them these days.
The cause for the problem in your deck could be any and all of the above.

Oh, and welcome to Beoworld !

Get it fixed - very nice deck if maybe not quite as attractive as the 4000 and not as well made. It does however have a great motor and these are really good decks.

I agree with Peter. The Beogram 8000 is a great performing turntable. I don't really like comparing the Beograms to each other because they all have their own special advantages. The 1980's were for the Beogram 800x series of turntables and they introduced some cool things like the magnetic induction platter drive instead of a traditional motor. They have computer controlled speed that locks 33 1/3 or 45 RPM in solid. They integrate beautifully with the Beomaster 8000 and 6000 (from that period). The Beogram 8000 is also nice because it can mount the MMC 6000 and 20CL cartridges. Being someone that owns a perfectly working one I can't think of anything bad about them.

The turntable is at the age where it needs a good restoration if it is to continue though. I don't recommend skimping on the repair. Get it fully restored and you will have a great turntable.
