Marcello:

Key takeaway from the article: " The company no longer has an in-house video development team"

time will tell if this is a good thing or not...

And that B&O has agreed that LG will cover production also.

Does that mean the hand made B&O is now gone and all production line?

If it makes fan boys like me look elsewhere, then it's a dreadful thing for me. What difference that makes in the real world I'll never know.

Sounds fantastic although were doing the usual thing of turning up the TV to beat the lyrics, only to then turn it down for the action. This had been a constant thing since the BV7/10.

Its interesting reading the facebook page comments. They are getting slaughtered for the design. Its a shame this should have been a home run for them on price, design etc especially when they were outsourcing a lot of it.

Regarding the connections, I am not sure about one thing: as far as I am aware, my BL5s are connected to my BV7-55 with Power Link cables, which look like DIN-cables. Can I connect my BL5s to the new Beovision Eclipse?

Thanks!

you would use a DIN to RJ45 (the new connector) which have been available on the Beovision 10, 11, Avant and Horizon.

I would have to do the same if i connected my BL3s to it.

Okay, I love it.

I do prefer a fabric cover, though, and like the "forged iron gray" best. If I could suggest a color, it would be Regal Red.

Just saw it at my dealer. I think it is beautiful. Really classic B&O with aluminum and glass. First tv since bv11 that made me go wow!

I agree with other comments that the pricing is off in today's world. Other minor point is that the menus are clearly LGs.

If I didn't already have a BV11 (and a LG oled), i would have placed an order

After seeing it on video I must say: I really like it. With the silver/grey aluminium cover it reminds me of the classic lovely Bang & Olufsen design!
Well done and much better than Beovision 14 and Horizon.

It looks somehow like a combination at home: LG OLED TV with a Beolab 7.2 beneath. To be fair: The Eclipse looks better. Smile

The user interface is a disappointment on the aesthetical side. The whole menu system looks only half-hearted and features all the standard rainbow colored LG Icons. Web OS is customizable and I can't see anything that I would call "a well done approach of a nice customized B&O user interface" - which is very sad as the outer case looks so beautiful.

Hi,

Most connections on the Eclipse are as per Beovision 14 and Horizon in terms of connecting speakers, so an RJ45 to Powerlink cable will allow Beolab 5, Beolab 3 or similar age speakers with DIN sockets to be connected to the Eclipse:-

http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/31-rj45-to-powerlink-compatible-all-in-one-cable-convert-new-2013-ethernet-powerlink-to-traditional-8-pin-din-powerlink.html

PUC control of external set top boxes and media players is also possible via an RJ45 IR blaster cable:-

http://soundsheavenly.com/televisions/60-ir-transmitter-blaster-for-beosystem-4-beoplay-v1-and-beovision-11avant-rj45-control-socket.html

As with Beovision 14, Horizon and Avant NG, you can also link a classic Beosound audio system (eg. Ouverture, Beosound 9000, etc) directly to the Eclipse via a simple cable connection, so for a single room setup you won't need an NL/ML Converter (saving you £600):-

http://soundsheavenly.com/televisions/158-powerlink-to-beovision-14-horizon-cable-link-your-audio-system-to-your-new-tv.html

Hope this is helpful.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

For me, feels for the first, in a long, time that a BeoVision is technically up-to-date/state-of-the-art again.

Looking forward to seeing it in person and will make a final judgement then. I am committed already to a point, so I really hope I do like it! A few initial thoughts:-

1. A very average design, not making me go wow (like some) at this particular moment. I've already had a BV7 so how can I get excited about something that looks virtually the same? I think initial Facebook comments may be right; this is a disappointment from a design perceptive. I think Torsten Valeur demonstrates little creative thinking, he just copies old David Lewis designs leaving me disappointed and uninspired. I wish B&O would create a completely new radical design! I find the Sony A1 more appealing, especially with no logo and just a subtle light at the bottom which you can switch on or off. Simple, classic and beautiful.

2. No moving parts, the same old types of stands and brackets, nothing new or radical here.

3. Same aluminium mesh grille covers, again where is something completely different? I want B&O to reinvent the wheel, not keep jumping back on it.

4. Seems to be a lot of reflection from the lower pain of glass under the speaker, which could be very off putting in situ.

5. There are a lot of positives in terms of the screen technology utilised that I am happy to see but like many others have posted, I really can't see the merit in paying the higher price tag for effectively, a 2017 LG OLED and a decent sound bar. There's little here that's B&O. I think the Sony A1 is far more interesting at its price level and I suspect it will have better picture processing too. We will see.

Unsure Here's hoping it grows on me! Unsure

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Awful.

What were they thinking with that speaker protrusion? Taking a very thinly framed set with a heavy sound bar is quite off putting.

Was looking for a picture of the blue fret on the site Mediacenter and there are none yet.

What I realised looking at the back of the tv pic is that the stand tube goes in the speaker unlike the old ones hanging the tv.

So byebye brackets on the back for ugly boxes.

1 mybutton with the new remote is a no go, make sure you get the 4 "mybuttons" instead.

Reading the customer guide you see a lot of "LG describes :..." in the picture settings. Just stop that please. Yes it's LG but it's no LG price.

At 139cm for the 55" I think it's to wide for my room corner. Will check tonight but I'm sure that the 8000's have to move.

Good for the Pucs and the Avant mech stand.

Nice tv overall, can't wait to see/ear.

Seems like they just took a monitor from LG complete with built in tuner and everything. It has four HDMI inputs on the "TV" and four other ones on the "SoundCentre".

In the manual theres a lot of text about cables going to different connectors and I started thinking that B&O just designed the SoundCentre and that the TV is completely standard (no surprises though of course).

This confirms it:
HDMI IN 1 & 3*
The High Definition Multimedia Interface allows you to connect many different sources, such as set-top boxes, multimedia players, Blu-ray players, or a PC. To operate non-Bang & Olufsen products with your Bang & Olufsen remote control and for optimum sound quality it is recommended to connect products to the HDMI sockets on the SoundCenter.
*HDMI 2 reserved for SoundCenter communication.

So it seems like the "BeoSystem 5" is the SoundCentre. I would almost have hoped B&O made this a separate product too - maybe they will? Like a BeoLab 7.4 with built in HDMI, PUC, MIC, POWERLINK, ETHERNET, Stand control and optical input (which is all it got except for a service port).

I haven't seen the TV yet but I hope it looks better IRL. Can't see a metal frame around the picture and the set seems wider than the 55" avant when I compare tech specs. A pity since my wall is just wide enough for the Avant (plus a few centimeters). I think the Avant is a more fully fetched product but the Eclipse has a never screen technology which is quite nice.

The lesser weight of the new thinner screen means that the stand is also half the weight but I also believe it is smaller meaning it cant go as far forward as the Avant does. Maybe I am wrong.

I think it´s a little fun that the LG-tv on the Eclipse still has all the regular connectors and not just the SoundCentre connectors. It feels very weird. If the products werent put together in one product it would have made much more sense since it would then be super easy to change the monitor.

I think the SoundCentre only uses HDMI2 and LAN/CTRL (Ethernet) on the LG TV to communicate with each other.
Why HDMI 2 you might ask. Well, it is because it is the only HDMI ARC port on the LG. It stands for Audio Return Channel so the TV feeds the sound data to the SoundCentre via the same HDMI cable that can send video/audio/data to the TV - that is how sound from the LG internal HDMI-ports and WebOS apps is sent to Powerlink/Wisa/SoundCentre internal speakers.

I am a bit worried that there is no information about Dolby TrueHD, DD+ or Atmos for example. The LG E7 supports it but maybe the SoundCentre processor does not..

Also the calibration microphone is not included with the TV as it was with BeoVision Avant unfortunately. You have to purchase it and it has a new connector. Maybe the old microphone can be used with an adaptor (SoundsHeavenly will probably have to make one if so).

EDIT: Added a comparison between LG OLED65E7V (LG OLED E7) and information from the Eclipse manual. Very identical :).

Just spent 90 minutes or so with it

Looked much nicer in person - the profile is flatter than the pictures suggest. No great worry for wall mounting.

Multi room seems to work, but via the B&O app, and in both pull / push directions. Join also seemed to work on the remote. On screen menu's are all LG at the moment, so no music room triggered from there.

Where things do get a bit fuzzy, at least as of today, are the on screen menu's, which is an entirely LG experience

The connections are odd / interesting, and points to the modular nature of the TV

There are 4 HD ports (effectively LG panel ports) labelled 1-4. Separately there are 4 HD ports for the sound bar, labelled A-D. Think of the sound bar as a BS4 if you will, that's where PUC control etc is done.

It may be that with CEC on the panel inputs 1-4, you may not need PUC control - ran out of time

Secondly, source list editing seems absent at the moment - both on the remote and on screen.

So yes, a bit modular and a touch disjointed, but it looks and sounds pretty good, if very LG in its UI.

Not sure I quite agree that the sound is so good you won't need other speakers.

Anyway, will look at picture quality next time

Didn't see your post before I wrote mine, but you've hit the nail on the head. Initially it does feel a bit weird, as it is highly modular, to the extent that the dealer slots the panel into the sound bar.

After a while this feeling may well fade.

Definitely looked nicer in person, even with the aluminium fret. Nothing groundbreaking but pretty cool.

A quick question for those who've seen the options - what fret colours are currently available?

B&O King Street mentioned a number of colour options. What are they? Can't find the speaker colour options on the website.
