I have a BG8002 for repair. Came in not working, with unknown service history. After replacing the caps, a couple of zeners, the 7805 regulator, and re-soldering joints, it appears to be working quite well.

There are 2 issues which are unfamiliar to me, and I would appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on these.

1.

No LP, no Cartridge, Press PLAY: The tonearm moves to the left, stops at the platter start position, and drops to the platter - so far all OK. Now, if I gently nudge the tonearm to the left, simulating travel on an LP groove, the servo motor correctly rotates, advancing the tonearm mechanism to the left.

BUT (here's a difference from the BG400x series, which moves in both directions), if I nudge the BG8002's tonearm to the RIGHT, there is no reaction from the servo motor. ie - the "nudge" mechanism works one way only, in the normal direction of an LP groove.

Also, I noticed that the "nudge" mechanism on the BG8002 functions O(NLY when the tonearm has lowered. On the BG400x, the "nudge" mechanism operates irrespective of whether the tonearm is in the raised or lowered position.

BTW, the STOP, << and >> buttons, and normal return at end-of-play all work perfectly.

Is this LEFT-ONLY "nudge" the normal operation of the BG8002?

2.

See attached picture of the flex-PCB, located at the rear of the TT. The Blue wire is attached directly to a chassis bolt. The grey wire is soldered to the blue wire. According to the SM diagram, the grey wire is connected to ground P3-7, which may or may not be the chassis. Here the grey and blue wires are soldered together. Is this correct, or should the grey wire be re-soldered directly to P3-7 only.

On the BG400x, Ground is NOT chassis, with IIRC a 0.47nf cap separating them.

Again, I ask these questions because with a unit of unknown service history, one never knows what shortcuts were taken by a previous unknowledgeable tech, in order to complete a repair quickly.

Hi! I have a Beogram 8000 (should be very similar to the 8002) and it also works with "left-only nudge". The Technics linear trackers also work like that, I think it could be normal...

None of the tangential tracking Beograms will move the transport if "nudged" in raised position. The Beogram 4000 is the only one in the whole series that can track both forwards and backwards Smile
