David: picking one up tomorrow morning - lets hope its more stable / reliable than the Essence
Yes. I wish to replace a spare AppleTV3 and a S8 connection hub with the Core. If it is no more reliable than an Essence then, no sale/
David:picking one up tomorrow morning
Interesting !
Tell us (and show us too) please
Do you already have a Wheely (Essence remote) ?
Ok just unboxed and plugged in, so first thoughts are:
setup is reasonably easy, but its through the B&O app which i find rather clunky and unresponsive - i had to repetr several steps as sometimes going into a submenu it just stayed blank, but i got there eventually.
Pairing the Essence remote was much easier and worked first time, however im struggling a bit with walls and bluetooth range so had to relocate it into my lounge rather than hid away in my media room with all the n/w and other bits and pieces
(i assume reason for reboxing into the core shape is so you dont HAVE to hide it away - which you can read as bluetooth doesnt work reliably unless its within a few metres / same room so if we make the box smaller / more discrete you can leave it in the room and everything will work great! - sorry the cynic in me came out a bit then 😉)
For some reason the Beosound 2 doesnt appear in the list of speakers (BS1 does but this may be the original one not the new ones) but thats an app issue which hopefully will get fixed at some point
Will report back when had a bit more time to play
(btw the Beosound 50s are awesome ! Much bigger than i thought they were, definatly more R2-D2 shape / size and they sound fantastic!)
Hi Jans - same as the Essence was - £600
David:Hi Jans - same as the Essence was - £600
Can you confirm the availability of Tunein, as it is not listed on the Shape product page?
David:- lets hope its more stable / reliable than the Essence
The Essence started out very reliable for me. Over time with the software updates it seemed to get worse and worse. The bluetooth remote hardly works now and I had to go with the IR eye, which works better, but I lost the ability to change sources with the remote. Network drops are pretty frequent now, which causes the bloop bloop noise (notification sound) actually on all my devices. I also have to more frequently unplug my Essence to reset it to get it working properly again. I have to wonder:
A) Was this to get me frustrated with the Essence and go buy the Core?
B) Will the same thing happen with the Core?

Sounds to me like B&O has no idea how to do regression testing on their s/w.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Hello, yes Tune-in is built in and works perfectly
So far the core has been fine, but the essence remote sucks !
bearing in mind that is one of the main reasons i wanted one (such a great idea, and a lovely piece of wall furniture!) i am getting close to taking it back.
it doesnt seem to be able to start music - i have to use the app on the phone, but from then on will pause / skip / volume control fine, but if i pause the music for more than 2 mins eg answer the phone, im back to square one again and having to get my phone out, start the app and then its random if it will start palying again or not, and sometimes need the app to be restarted.
(all this is from streaming music from my synology by the way)
i currently have the whole house installed with Sonos which in some of the rooms with B&O speakers is a bit clunky (eg in TV room BL8000's connected to pre-out of an amp, so i have to switch the amp on first) so was hoping the core + essence would streamline things, but getting started is just as clunky, and only if ( and i hold my breath every time i touch it) the essence remote works do i get a smile on my face the rest of the time the damn app is so clunky im starting to yearn for Sonos again as the app there, whilst a bit ughly, is at least extremely stable
if you have a house full of the newer WISA speakers (or the Shape for that matter) You would hope things work better, by my essence remote still wont talk consitently to my Beosound 2
so my thoughts after today are :
Beosound Core 5/10
Beosound Essence remote 1/10
B&O App 0/10
im determined to not give up just yet, will keep repositioning / experimenting but the complete lack of the apps functionality / stability and the unreliable / inconsistent essence connectivity are really depressing me
@ Stevegee - completely agree with you on the BS2, but i dont need a core to run these, what i WANT is an essence remote to be in my hand as i walk round so i can control them in var rooms, but thats looking a long way off at mo

How on earth has it got to this, when you're buying a premium brand?
Things should work simply, easily, and intuitively when you're paying considerable amounts more than mass-market offerings, surely?
Mmmh, so it was the right decision to postpone my decision to buy a Beosund Core. It's so sad to see that Bang & Olufsen doesn't seem to be able anymore to deliver ANY products without flaws! Is their quality testing completely gone?Unbelievable...

It's all about DLNA --> this is the normal behaviour of any Digital Media Renderer like the BS Core, BS Essence mk1/2, BS35, BS1/2 or the BeoPlayX.
From the BOGO FAQ :
BeoSound Essence is acting only as a DMR. This means that:
Your phone/tablet, the BS5 or the tablet of the BS Moment are "intelligent remotes" (Digital Media Controller), so they're able to start a song from a NAS. The Wheely is not a DMC.
On the other hand, it should be able to start the radio (and may be the last played Spotify's song). Did you check this too?
And what about the pairing loss?

I agree that the Essence remote is terribly unreliable. One way to get better control is to use a BLGW to build macros to control the NL products over ethernet rather than bluetooth. You can program it so that you can use the Beo4 with a combination of LIGHT and other buttons. Also, you can put the Essence Remote into LIGHT mode and attach the macros to the Essence Remote's buttons.
Did you tried the wheely in IR mode with the IR controller too ?

Has anyone used the new Beosound Core to stream Deezer and music off their NAS?
Is it unreliable and prone to disconnection or a reliable and pleasurable device to use with the B&O app?

Question for all you core experts,
I currently use a Beolink PC to connect my mac's itunes to my b&o (ML) world. Works okay-ish - not great (occasionally it seems beolink pc is confusing ML and I have to reset all b&o gear). So I was thinking about alternatives. Would I be able to stream itunes music via core and beolink nl/ml to my ml based setup? How would I swicht this on ML side? Does the core (sitting "behind" the nl/ml converter) react to some source button (e.g. AUX2). Or how does this setup work. My dealer is of little use as he wants me to replace almost all my gear with nl stuff - which I neither have the funds nor the desire to do.
thanks for any pointers or hints
cheers
Torsten

TorstenThe Core is probably like the EssenceIn the BLC NL/ML you assign Beo4 commandsN.radio = TuneIn N.music = Deezer ... or maybe SpotifyI know you want Apple Music - so do I - but this is how it works at the moment
If you don't intend to have other NL products, another solution would be to let the Core/Essence (2nd gen) be one source on an audiomaster (e.g a BM 6500/7000) on the ML-network - and manage this through the app respectively to AirPlay/iTunes to it........and using the A.aux or A.Tape/A.Mem command and volume control in the ML linkrooms.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hi MM,
was thinking about this, too. But my 3200 is "full" (beogram takes the AUX socket). And the bv10 doesn't seem to have a sensible analog in (could probably try analog video)...

Hi elephant,
tnx, for the insight. So, no Apple music using core/converter? Rats...

You can of course use AirPlay from your iDevice
But that’s not as convenient as having a predefined source you just click to
Using the B&O app I also access my PLEX DLNA srverto gain access to my iTunes - but again that’s not a simple click
Hi all,
I received my Beosound Core yesterday and set it up to be integrated with my Beovision 11-46 (i.e. share the same speakers).
Both Spotify Connect and Deezer sources work seamlessly, i.e. I'm able to stream the any song via the B&O app or Spotify app and they play on my BV with no issues.
However, I'm having trouble playing music files (flac) from my own library via BS Core on my BV. On the BV, it shows the 'link' symbol and music as a source, including the metadata, but there's no sound out of the speakers. Oddly enough, I can make a queue on the B&O app with both songs from Deezer and from my library and the TV plays the Deezer songs but again no sound when it is playing the files from my library...
If I use the homemedia in my BV, I can access and play any music file from my library with no problems. My files are stored in a QNAP NAS with a Twonky server...
Has anyone encountered this issue? I called B&O support, but they have no clue...
Thank you!

This.
would suggest you used the BV1-46 home media mode for NAS, Deez or Spot again via the BV
Use the Core in another room with add on speakers to build your multi room capability
Ongoing issues that I’ve reported to Thomas at B&O:
Unable to add to queue
Core unreachable soradically or suddenly after an hour or so for no fathomable reason.
Artwork appearing on starting the first track from an album on my QNAP but when selecting next track the artwork disappears unless I minimise the now playing screen and pull it back up.
If I want to scrub or fast forward to a time point in a specific track the music goes silent, no time marker appears and the Core freezes.
When I start a Deezer album there can be a delay of up to 15 seconds for the first song to start....
When selecting a NAS track nothing happens and the track isn’t queued to play but then if I repeat the procedure it comes on.
Core is slow to respond to commands on the App.
No search function for the NAS.
Overall I’d say the Core is behaving like an unruly teenager and it’s so frustrating I’m losing patience - haven’t you encountered these problems?
Is the Moment more reliable and faster from your experience?
seethroughyou still having problems with the Core?
