Hello everyone!

This past Friday I received my first ever BeoWorld Prize! Very exciting.

IMG_1215_zps90d8fdbb

It arrived in an original B&O box no less!

And here is my prize, a BeoMaster 1000!

This thread will start with the light work of converting to be used here it the US (which is really just a mains plug change).

Hopefully later this will evolve into a full restoration.

THANK YOU BEOWORLD!!!

Thanks Mika! I'm already dreaming of some smooth 60's vintage tonality.

My very first Beo, bought new in 1969, together with a BG 1000 and Beovox 1000, 1971 I sold it to get money to buy a car.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I have either lost my mind (hahaha to all future repliers) or your prize lost a FEW NUMBERS in customs?

Did you "regrade" to match your BG?

I plan on pairing mine with my pair of BV2600s. I also need to date mine!

I was wondering if anyone would notice!!

There was a slight mix up at the BeoWorld HQ and I was sent a BM1K.

I forget nothing. Idiotic eidetic memory, they claim.

What were we talking about?

Well, considering your gear -I think it is the better match!

I love these little 1000's -having had one on my nightstand for many a year. Just about perfect for a small study/office, etc...

In my room/study/office I have no less than 3 separate stereo systems each with their own sources and speakers. It's going to be tough to make a spot for the 1000, but it will happen!

I have to say I'm very anxious to hear it. Very curious about the early transistor systems.

With the recent progression/direction of my collection, I am beginning to see valves on the horizon!

Correct. However, Lee mistakenly sent me a BM 1000. I am happy to accept any prize, so I'm going to keep the 1000. I think I am more anxious to work on the 1000 anyway! :-D

This is a very cool receiver! Almost in mint condition after so many years. Wowwww.

Let us know how this item sounds with your setup. Probably a very warm sound. Enjoy it!

It's quite useful actually! I know you're not too hot for radio, but one of the gramophone inputs has no RIAA, so you'll have two line level inputs and the other phono input for other sources. It's relatively easy to place (for a B&O receiver) and sounds nice too! Smile

Maybe it was a divine intervention, me sending the wrong prize...  Either way, it's the first time I've ever done it in the history of the draw, and i rather wanted the ground to open up and let me disappear down it when Evan thanked me for the Beomaster 1000..

That particular unit was destined for the Christmas Draw as it has had one owner from new who bought it for his 40th Birthday and cherished it ever since. He even kept the original box for when he moved house, but never did - it just sat wrapped in a blanket in his garage.

Evan, enjoy! Smile

Tulloch unearthed it when he moved the XJ?

Yes, quite good condition!

Today I am buying a new power cord to replace the old one. After I install it I will do a small test/listen and report back.

I'm sure I will enjoy it, thank you!

You are perfectly right about radio... Rubbish! It will be CD and vinyl for me. Maybe a splash of iPod... But not much!

Glad to hear they sound good, as if I thought different! I have high expectations.

Placement will be a struggle. I'm cramped with stereos in this room as is.

Lee, I was doing my best to keep this under the radar and keep your credibility intact!! LOL

If the original owner is still keen on keeping up with his stereo, you should send him a link to this thread.

The previous owner's care really shows through, this unit is in great shape!

Thanks again, Lee!

Uh, two comments.

1) It doesn't count as a full system without a turntable.

2) Pics, or they don't exist.

Two responses.

1) They have to share a turntable at the moment.

2) You've already seen them! Stick out tongue Its most of my gear in a new setting ...a much, much smaller setting. I will get a pic regardless, its literally cramped.

Even in DK we call them tubes, but the Brits also drive in the wrong side of the road, so why wonder.

Some day I'd love to have one of those BM1000's.  Maybe hooked up to two BG1000's:  one for shellac and one for vinyl!  Hhhmmm....what would be the perfect loudspeaker for that setup?

They were tubes over here too (or "bulbs" to those who couldn't tell a ceramic cap from a jacket button). On this forum, I call them valves simply because Dillen does it as well Laughing

I have my BM 901 connected to Beovox 1600s, wall hanged wide, amazing sound for two way small speakers, the product page is wrong, they are 2 way. And they have rubber surrounds.

Ok, here is my bedroom.

(Pics deleted)

At the top is a pic of most of my gear brought from home. The equipment below the BS4500 is my Darkside stack connected to my JBL towers. Second pic is of my headphone station complete with 100% custom monoblock headphone power amp. Peeking out from under the bed in the third pic is the newest addition to the family - the BM1000. Bottom pic shows the vinyl rig up close on the drafting table, flanked by a pair of  S45-2s.

Like I said, cramped! Embarrassed

If I ever find room to set this up, I think I will just use my 2600s. I looked over the user guide a few minutes ago and it recommends either the 1500 or the 2400.

Personally, I cant wait to hook up my CD player! Devil

Some day, when you have a bit of room, try to get the equipment off your desk and get the S45-2s up on your desk.  I use mine like that for one fantastic near field listening experience.  They flank my computer monitor.  Computer (home brew with a blu-ray)  -> digital optical cable -> Sony AV Reciever -> S45-2s.  Music and movies (Dolby Digital 2.0) and even computer games (Sid Meier's Civilization V anyone?) sound great.  Have my first piece of B&O in this system as well, BG RX 2.

Anyway, picture quid pro quo.  Here's the start of my next project, which is really going to be more of an experiment.  The picture shows a mockup, but of what?  Anyone care to guess?

(Sorry for the temporary thread jack - bad form, I know, but too early in the experiment for a proper thread of its own.)

Thread jacking immunity granted.

The S45s are not used for any critical listening, mostly testing. The system with the most use in this room is my BeoSystem 4500 and Fostex pm0.4n's. The speakers are at perfect height and are adequate for the space as well as being quiet for the sleepy housemates. The Darkside gear normally resides in the front living room where it has room to breathe but was moved due to some partying...

In about two months I'll conquer the master bedroom during the tenant changeover :-D

As for your project, it looks like a center channel. The experiment being diffraction/time delay testing of sorts? If so, don't rely on cardboard, you will have all sorts of coloration!
