Hello all,

For those of you that have experience with both, are there any noticeable differences in sound from the BL6000 to the BL6002?  I recently sold my pair of BL6000 due to the bass just not sounding right to me (especially compared to my BL8000, but I know they are a different beast).  I was considering a pair of 6002 that I have found, but I don't know if there would be much of a difference...

Thanks for any input!

Supposedly they sound the same, but the question is was the reason your 6000s bass sounded weird that the surrounds on the drivers were doing the typical BL6000 tearing?

I replaced the surrounds as soon as I got them, which fixed the initial poor sound quality, but to me a higher volumes the bass just sounded a bit distorted, not really bad, but just not really what I was looking for.  Those are the only pair of BL6000 that I have listened to, so maybe there was another problem? They sounded good, just not great...  My 8000s on the other hand sound killer to me, but I think putting a pair of those in the bedroom would be a bit overkill.

I suspect then that you're running up on the limitations of two 3 inch woofers per speaker, that's not a lot of driver area to move much air, and they are easy to overdrive into distortion. I have no idea if B&O has limited the lower frequencies below system resonance but bass reflex speakers have a tuning frequency that's chosen to give max bass extension and reasonable accuracy, but below this frequency the bass drivers "unload," that is they stop seeing enough air resistance from the air in the cabinet to keep them from overextending the driver so it tends to flop from one excursion extreme to the other, in and out, and can be damaged by that easily. I suspect that there is some filter in the speakers that limit how much bass signal reaches the driver below resonance since B&O is good about such things but there's still only so much a small driver can do. What they can do is truly amazing for such small speakers.

I have a pair of 6000s I'm restoring, and have a pair of 8000s which truly do sound far better, bigger drivers, bigger cabinets, but they got lost in my huge living room so I moved them to the dining room and put BL9s in the living room, they handle the size of the room well, plenty of bass. It's funny to me, the BL6000 is in the MoMA collection, but the 8000 isn't, and I consider them to be perhaps the best looking speaker ever.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Jeff,

Thanks for the info!  If I was able to find a deal within my reach on some Beolab 9s I may be able to justify putting the 8000s in my bedroom, however I think the 9s will be out of range for the near future at least...  I agree with you on the 8000s being the most attractive, I love looking at mine as much as I like listening to them!

I'd look for some BL4000s for your bedroom.  Many think they sound as good as the 6000s, and don't have the driver issues - although some of the older models have an issue caused by decaying acoustic batting messing up their electronics.  Search the forum about this issue.  Personally, I have a pair of the much maligned BL4s in my bedroom, and I think they're great.  I considered the 6000s and 4000s first, but I thought both were overkill for the bedroom.

Stan,

I like the idea of the 4000s, and I have been looking around for a good pair.  I also have considered a pair of BL3000 or BL5000s just because I have a lot of unused wall space and I think they look great.  Do you or anyone else have much experience with these?  Whatever I end up with in there will be connected to a Beosound 2500 just for reference.

Thanks!
