I received a mail from Axiim that there new product is about to launch. What interest me most is the WISA support as I have my full surround system based on B&O wireless speakers.

As my TV is aging, I was looking into buying the new Eclipse, but given pricing I am looking into alternatives as well. In another thread, Loewe was mentioned as an nice alternative. This indeed seems to work well as was demonstrated by a dealer, however no support for WISA.

I am particularly interested in the option to use it as a kind of BeoSystem 4. Connecting my blue ray, Apple TV and other stuff to it and than to a general brand 4K OLED tv and thus preventing the use of an Eclipse.

Are there any thought whether this might work and/or whether you can safely use US gear in Europe?

Looks really interesting. Wonder if it can control B&O devices. If so, it could be a good BS4 alternative.

I have reached out to them to gain a better understanding what they are capable off. In itself is the Curren 800$ price point quite nice (although shipping to Europe and our taxes will as some to too :-).

Will post the responses when received.

Signed up just to reply to this - did you receive any response from Axiim, Harry? I'm also researching the Axiim Q UHD and have just sent in some of my own questions, too.

On another note - It's well-known that, taking into account conversion rates, things are greatly priced-up $^^^ for the Australian market where I am ("Oh we're going to sell it in Australia? Let's charge double the price!") but regardless the B&O Eclipse is one pricey TV!  I don't blame you for investigating alternatives.

Hi Monique,

I did receive feedback from Axiim.

First of all I requested feedback on possible delay's in video or audio as in the end you set a box in between. This was there response:

  • The Axiim Q has a couple of different video latency settings that you can use for non UHD content, including a "sync" mode that will perfectly synchronize the audio and video.
  • This results in a slight latency for the video that can make playing video games problematic, which is why we created a Game mode that will render video frames as quickly as possible. Unfortunately this does result in slightly delayed audio. For UHD content, the video is always routed directly to the TV, bypassing any video processing by the Axiim Q, resulting in a great gaming experience. There is a minimal lag for the audio, not noticeable by most people.

Seems to me that this will solve potential issues for normal watching. For gaming however I have the impression that I need to check on it a bit more to validate how that will work out for non UHD content like the Nintendo Switch.

Second question I raised was on the center speaker. Can you use the TV as a center speaker. Response by Axiim:

  • Axiim Q UHD will work with any WiSA compliant speakers, including the Bang Olufsen Beolab speakers. You may use any brand TV you would like, however the TV itself cannot be one of the speakers.

So, you need a WISA compliant center speaker. I was thinking to use a BeoLab 7.x speaker and connect it with B&O Beolab Receiver 1, (https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/collection/apps-and-accessories/beolab-reciever-1).

Third question was about integration between devices. I intended to connect an Apple TV, Xbox One X, a settop box and a Nintendo Switch to the Q. Is CEC  for those box supporting it? Response Axiim:

  • The system should work well with all of the devices you mentioned, including CEC for the devices that support it.

I alo understood that they are actively supporting clients on connection issues with the previous version of the box, so I think, in the end you are mainly depended on the CEC software in the boxes you want to connect.

I also asked about any preconditions to the TV to be coupled to the system. Response from Axiim was:

  • You may use any brand TV you would like

I also discussed shipping with them as I am living outside the US and they confirmed they are happy to ship anywhere. To Europe, shipping costs where 70 Euro via UPC.

Thanks for the update. They are fantastic questions, great to hear their responses - I'm sure this thread will assist a lot of others with the same questions, too.

Axiim never got back to me. I might re-send the questions and try my luck, but for the moment I'm not in a rush, have decided to wait for additional *existing* speaker-specialist manufacturers (in addition to Klipsch & B&O) to adopt the WISA standard and bring quality products to the market and retail Australian-compliant versions at a more reasonable price point within the country.

Keep an eye on the http://www.wisaassociation.org site. They just updated their site to show compatible products and are about to extend that in the course of this year I understood when reaching out to them for products.

Thought I’d add my experience with Axiim which I have used for almost 2 years (recently received the free upgrade to the 4K Q Media Centre) – I’m based in London and got it shipped from the US.

My setup is Sony 4K LCD TV a pair of Beolab 18’s up front, pair of Beolab 17’s for the rears, Beolab 19 sub and an AXIIM centre speaker (B&O doesn’t have a separate WISA centre speaker).

I would love to get the Eclipse but it’s too expensive for me so happy with my Sony LCD and Axiim centre speaker for the time being – second hand Eclipse anyone? Let me know…ha.

There were some small glitches with the original Axiim Q but with the new 4K Q these have been fixed.

I have enjoyed the B&O speakers for both Music and TV and use both the Axiim Q Bluetooth and Apple Airplay (which is attached to the Axiim Q via HDMI) for Music. TV watching is through Sony TV Android with Netflix, Amazon and Plex. Also have cable (Sky) attached to the TV.

So if anyone wanted to know if Axiim works with B&O Speakers then it’s a simple yes – WISA does work and love the less cluttered look.

Hi Junioradae

I only have the Axiim Q and an Axiim centre speaker. The rest of my 5.1 speaker setup B&O.

l’m no audiophile but the clarity for me is great through by B&O speakers and the Axiim centre speaker is adequate. Separation of channels is fine when playing 5.1 movies - I stream movies using my Sony TV and use ARC to the Axiim Q for the audio. So when playing standard or HDR movies on the TV the audio through the Axiim Q works fine.

In regards to your second question and as mentioned above re my setup I only have an Axiim centre speaker and works fine. So can’t help with an all Axiim speaker setup - if that was what you were asking.

Hope this helps.

Yep that’s correct. I contacted them and asked if I could buy only the components I required

We both use 3rd party wisa Hubs with BL’s, a Klipsch hub in my case.

Can you hub update the speaker software? I only got stable connections after taking my speakers/receiver1’s to B&O for a software update.

If you don’t mind a suggestion on your setup, I have read that the ear is highly sensitive to changes in radiation patterns etc between front and center speakers. if a sound source in a movie moves from one side of the screen to the other, the voicing etc should stay constant, and you may not get this consistency when mixing speaker brands.

this is particular critical if your beolab speakers are of a generation with guided wave treble units, as those will have a very different radiation pattern from Axxim speakers.

I chose a BL 7-4 (with receiver1) as the center to match my BL18 sides for my 7.1 HT setup.

Orca99,

I am with Axiim and the Q UHD Media Center can update B&O speaker WiSA firmware. Also, we do have many B&O customers using our center channel speaker and they have been very happy.

Thank you and I hope this answers some of your questions.

Hi Hammej

I don’t doubt that many would be happy with one of your centre speakers together with B&O fronts......many people are also perfectly happy with soundbars, Bose and bluetooth connections for music.

I just pointed out that speakers like yours will bounce much more sound off floors and ceilings than B&O speakers with waveguides. I trust you will not dispute this, else please advise.

It would be interesting to perform a blind test, to see how many can detect this difference; in absence of this, I feel the safe approach is not to mix a regular center speaker with wave guided side speakers in critical applications......like in my home :)).

Also - I would love to try the Axxim Q hub sometime; the Klipsch RP-hub1 i have now seems to be discontinued. Klipsch themselves refer to Axiim hubs on their web page.
