I found a nice pair of Beolab 4000 speakers in my parents their cellar.
I tried to connect them to a sonos connect via a regular red/white cable and selected the option "line in".
Unfortunately both speakers don't react. The light remains red. I red something about foam rot, so I opened the speakers and found a sticky substance. I removed everything. Cleaned the motherboard with 99% alcohol. This didn't solve the red light issue. I assume the motherboard is too already affected by the foam rot and needs some more adjustments.
What should I do? I prefer not spending 500 euro on repairing them. But I neither want to throw them away before I tried everything.
Happy holidays!
And best regards
Make sure you actually have audio going into the speaker, as it requires audio to be present to power the speakers on.
Ron
Thats indeed an important detail that was missing in my intro. I was playing music via the connect.
Thanks Ron for helping me out.
Hi Wohoo and welcome to Beoworld,
you will hardly have any luck cleaning the boards of the BL4000, if they are as affected as they usually are.
These boards are multilayered and mostly (not always) the ‘hidden’ layers are damaged too.
New boards are expensive, yes - however, if you choose to spend the money, they can serve you well for many years to come.
If you go looking for another set, be sure that they haven’t got the same damping material inside (thumb rule: look for MK2 versions).
In case of a MK1 set, at least be sure that you can open them, before buying - to see how they look inside
That they are working gives you no guarantee, that they will keep on working.....unforfunately.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks MM,
Where can I order those (expensive) boards?
Best regards
Hi
Can you show serial number ?
Send them over for repair.
No Problem.
@Wohoo
This long thread could show you details on the versions of the BL4000 and shed a light on the problem ‘damping material rot’ :

And do concider the offer from Beobuddy - he seems to be one of the few guys, who can handle this problem.
How can I contact you?
Beobuddy: Send them over for repair. No Problem.
Beobuddy, could you please contact me? Thanks
Did you already try sending an email from here:

Hi Beobuddy,
Do you still repair Beolab 4000 MKI Circuit boards affected by the insulation goo? I have a pair of speakers that have the melted goo inside.
Thanks
Yes, I still do. As the years go by, more damage seems to occur on the boards. The ones with version “D” can have severe damage, which sometimes is hard to fix. Send a pm for more information.
Beobuddy.
