Could anybody give me some advice(no sarcastic comments needed as i've heard them all thank you) I have recently obtained a Beovision 5 42" Non HD Tv and i am wanting to set this up with my Sky Q box,is this possible,i know the Beovision only has Scart sockets and the Sky Q has Hdmi so i have purchased a convertor to overcome this, however after plugging everything in i can't get a picture, sound or anything on the tv,the guy i obtained the tv off had his skybox working with the tv although his was the older sky box not the sky q,would this be why mine is not working..I know its an old tv and not even Hd but it looks lovely in my front room and i'm really not bothered about smart tv's and hd etc etc,we all watched tv and enjoyed it before they came along didnt we !!??  Any help/advice would be greatly received...Thanks..

I have recently sold mine only for the reason it became quite complicated to attach any new boxes, dongles ect because most are now HDMI only and it would mean I'd have too many adapters and cables. Like you, I didnt want a smart TV but I wanted a DigiBox (Humax) and FireTV. I loved mine and sure you will too, once you get it working. The sound is just amazing even just through the TV speakers

It may be useful if you can give some deatils about the adapter you have.I used one of these and it worked just fine with my AppleTV via HDMI (from Amazon and about £15)

Also, have you beeen into the TV setup menus to set the inputs correctly? I don't want to assume you have not set the TV up correctly but it took me a while. Did you get the DVD user manual with it? That has the more detailed setup guide on.

Hi Westwood

I presume that the HDMI to Scart converter is active meaning it has its own power supply. Next you have to check that the output setting for the converter (Read in the manual), Is that CVBS or is it RGB, if CVBS use the dekoder socket, and in the setup use the setup for SAT and then the dekoder for input. If the output is RGB, pls use V.Tape or AV socket again use SAT setup and use v.tape or AV as input as input. Sound if no sound use the Digital phono output on the STB box and plug into the Dolby Digital Decoder phono plug as described in the manual. Pls be born in mind one has to use a full 21 pin mounted Scart cable.  Next and final in the HDMI setup on your setup box select 576x720 or 576i it might work on 576P, don't inspect it to work. 576i is the lowest HD resolution and the highest that the BV5 will accept via Scart. The issue might be that your converter is converting one to one.

some obvious things to check, apologies if you’ve tried them.

Is the screen on? It’s a plasma so will be slightly lighter than when it’s off, or with no tv analog signal maybe just noise (black and white random screen). If it’s like that check it’s on av not tv (press the remote av button)

Have you got the tv input set to av and the scart cable plugged into the correct scart socket? You might need to choose av on the remote.

Have you tried another source? If not then plug in something else and try it if you can, dvd perhaps.

My BV5 ran perfectly with an old Sky box with Scart, and with a Panasonic Freeview box. I currently have a YouView box attached via Scart, but I have to say that the YouView output does not give as sharp a picture as the Sky box. As the YouView is primarily designed for HDMI output, I assume it does an internal conversion for the alternative Scart output, and there is some resulting degradation. As my BV5 is currently used mainly for DVDs via a BC2 I haven't tried any later HDMI STBs with Scart converters.

Hi Graham

Sky boxes with Scart out was sending CVBS signal not RGB, the CVBS is a "poor" signal compared with RGB, Using RGB output signal from a eg BC2 with RGB output you will get a fantastic picture. But its a matter of setting up the STB box to what it wrote above ie 576x720  or 576I on the Scart RGB output or HDMI output as the Scart output are depending of the HDMI output i RGB.

Hi Westwood.

Your reply is very helpfull. Question very important: Do you have connected a power supply to you small converter, Yes/No. You might have the wrong converter: it might be a Scart to HDMI and Not a HDMI to SCART. You can see this on the box, it says input or in, and out or put.

Write back and will assist you.

Frittz got there first.

It needs to be HDMI to scart, you said yours says scart to HDMI.

Hi Again Westwood

You have the wrong adapter. :(

It MUST be input HDMI and Output SCART (RGB)  and it must have an external Power supply. A new one price will be less than 50£ properly 30£  Some are offered very cheap but they are HDMI to SCART (CVBS=Composite video signal)

Then it will work, and if properly setup you will get a fantastic picture and sound in Dolby Digital. The BV 5 is a fantastic TV both with sound and with the Plasma Screen.

Many BV 5 owners are using that solution.

I have one question, does your BV have 5 RCA plug (Phono Sockets) in the at the rear together with the Dolby module and the three Scart sockets. ?

See if they will swap or refund you.

The adapter I used (see earlier answer) worked perfectly well for me on my Beovision 5. (and still working on my Beocenter 1 TV), it was under £15 on amazon. I use it with a scart adapter that was about £3 and cables I already had.

Hi Fritz,i've been trying to send you a picture of the back of my tv but i don't know/can't seem to upload it to you(told you i was rubbish with tech) there are however 5 small pin sockets at the top and to the right of them there are 2 single hole sockets and then below all of those(the 5 small pin sockets and 2 single hole sockets)are 3 scart sockets...

Initially I had an Apple TV on my adapter plugged into the AV scart socket and went into the TV settings to ensure the AV scart was enabled. I could the use the apple PUC to control the ATV. It worked brilliantly for me. I now use the same adapter in my Beocenter 1 TV (scart only) and it works perfectly.

As fritz says, you'll need to replace your adapter as it is not the correct one. Hopefully they will refund you or swap for the correct version.

Hi Again Westwood

No picture needed, message well understood

You have a BV 5 MK one.

You need a adapter HDMI input to SCART (RGB output) this will give a perfect picture and sound.

Good Luck

Brgds Fritz
