Hello everyone,
I have a BV8-40 with Beolab connected as front speakers and sometimes, I listen to music through the speakers by connecting a Macbook to the HDMI TV port but the TV screen turns on.
> Is there a way of turning the TV screen off for music listening only?
Alternatively, I may add a music streamer so I can use the Beo4 remote to switch to the speakers without having the TV screen turn on (exactly like when a Beosound is attached to the TV through Masterlink).
I want to keep it as simple as possible (no Beosound, no multiple remotes, and I don't want to use the TV analog AUX IN)
> Would the Playmaker wirerless module be the way to go by connecting it to the Beovision's Masterlink port (with RJ45 to Masterlink cable) ?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been covered in previous threads :)
Hi BEOrganic,
Welcome to Beoworld! Is there any particular reason why you don't want to use the analogue Aux In sockets on the left side of the TV please? These are ideal for connecting a music streamer such as Airport Express or Google Chromecast. You can use the Picture Mute (P.MUTE) command via the LIST button on a newer Beo4 remote to turn off the screen when listening to audio.
Unfortunately RJ45 to MAsterlink won't work in this case, as the TV would need to see digital data coming from another B&O product through the Masterlink cable in order to enable this socket.
If you need any help with cabling for the music streamer, please feel free to get in touch via my sponsor link below.
Kind regards, Steve.

Yes there is, just like muting the sound, you can mute the picture with P.MUTE
You will need to add P.MUTE to your BEO4 list. Once it is in the list just press LIST until displayed and the OK
One thing you should be aware on the BeoVision 8, there was a software bug on early versions where when you muted the picture it also muted the sound.

If you don’t want to use the analog R/L (for whatever reason, how about using one of the S/PDIF’s?
Personally I’d go for a Playmaker (output of the PL set to fixed line-out) connected to a scart adapter via R/L - that is, if you are into AirPlaying.
Set the BV to option 2 (if ML built-in). Sending the AV command before the Source selected for the scart, then will result in the tv starting up with a muted screen.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
I personnally use a NL/ML converter connected to my BV8-40, so I can listen to the music sources of my B&O sources (A9 & Essence) via the B&O app. That's the integrated way.
I would not recommend a Playmaker as Millemissen suggests, as it's a product that is not supported anymore, rare on the second hand market and too expensive for what it is. For me the best solution if you're in the "Apple Church" is an Apple TV : you get a lot of functionalities via all the apps, and your TV becomes an Airplay source that will be compatible with Airplay 2, which means it could be possible (but it's not sure) to play music in sync with any Beoplay speaker and your BV8.
If you're in the other church, the bad church, the frightening church : the Android Church () I would suggest a Chromecast.
And yes, music only mode is easily accessible via the P.Mute button.

Woa!!! thanx for this wealth of info! The P.MUTE is great news!!
Steve: I would rather not use the BV analog ports because I would like to use the BV’s internal DAC sound(I’ve been using some of the great cables you make for previous systems though. Great stuff ;)
Keith: My BV is MKII 2011, I’ll find out tonight if it is buggy or not
Millemissen: Yes, S/PDIF would output sound from my BV’s DAC so it is on my list
mbee: Apple TV is now on my list too!
Thx again for the great suggestions guys, much appreciated :)
