I'm trying to sort out why my Beocord won't FF.
It will play and rewind just fine, but it will not fast forward.
I thought perhaps my idler belt is too loose, however if that were the case, than I assume that rewind would also fail.
The tire looks pretty good to me, firm yet still "rubbery", no dried cracks or anything.
As well, if the idler was slipping, then rewind again would fail.
Anyone have any thoughts?

There are more rubber tires inside the deck. The whole deck will need stripping, cleaning, lubricating etc. It's very common for this whole series after 30 years.

Hi,
I have been looking for new tyres for that mech, in vain. I kind of hoped Martin would sort that out!
On my two BC9000's, even after thorough cleaning, I have not been able to restore the original grip 100%. I guess it will depend on the storage conditions.

One tire sorted, three to go...Looks so easy but it's not.
Thanks for that info.
I did a partial tear-down.
I'm used to complicated transports (Nakamichi Dragon, ect)
However, I count "4" idler type wheels. All in a very small space. - yikes
I discovered a small "L" shaped arm, with a small idler on the back of the transport, it was very stiff on it's pivot, it would not return freely enough. I cleaned that up, and it moves well now, however I've done something wrong, as the take up reel is now stuck.
Supply reel moves fine, and the idler arm I cleaned is coming into play as the take-up reel will try to move this time, however it is jamming up, and of course I no longer have any transport function.
I've looked, and it seems okay, however not knowing what a good transport is "supposed" to look like, I'm a bit lost.
I've worked on other transports before, but I'm in the dark on this, I thought I put everything back properly.
Question:
Can I access everything from the back? I don't want to disturb the head assembly if I can help it.
Is there a clear diagram or photo of the relationship between the idlers and reel tables?
.... however I've done something wrong, as the take up reel is now stuck.
You have the brake (black metal arm "plate" on the upper side of the deck) running on the outside of the take up reel table. It needs to run on the inside and you will have to hold it in place while putting the whole reel table block in.There are two similar brakes on the left reel that also needs to be held in place but they both work on the outside of the reel table. All three have little felt pads and I'm sure the one on the right has been bent by now and will need straightening out.
Thanks for the instructions.
I will take a closer look in the meantime.
In any case, I sent a PM (at least I thought I did), the other day asking about proper belts for this unit.
I've also heard you have put together a capacitor kit for Beomasters.
My Beomaster 8000 is working fine. (except for a weird tuning issue), however it never hurts to be prepared.
If you could PM me cost/payment instructions, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Weird tuner issue eh? Rings a bell or two!
