Dear fellow BeoWorld users.

I have just switched apartments and brought all my B&O equipment with. During the moving I found a good deal on a used DVD2, which I bought, to play DVD's. Smile

And now I thought it would be the time to connect it to my BeoSystem 3.

I preferred to connect it using the HDMI-port, so that's what I did. But first I went through the connection settings in the BeoSystem 3 and made sure that DVD on the Beo4 would trigger the HDMI connected DVD2.

Afterwards I switched the system of and powered it on again.

But the DVD2 didn't recognize the IR-signal from the Beo4, so I tried to press the LOAD-button on the unit itself, and that brought it to life. Then came the picture on my BeoVision 4. The first thing I have to do is to set the time and date, but the DVD 2 still won't recognize my remote.

So then I thought, that I might try and old SCART-cable. And switch settings again on the BeoSystem 3. But unfortunately nothing new. The exact same thing occurred. Confused

I even tried to put in a DVD in the tray, and close it again. It shows the DVD-menus in the bag ground of the settings menu, but still no response to my Beo4. Hmm

So... my question is: does anybody have a clue, on what to do?.. Whistle

Is the SCART cable fully wired?  Some of the cheaper ones are not, yet the B&O data requires extra pins to be connected to pass data to/from the DVD2.  Your symptom would suggest this as the cause.

See here: https://www.beoworld.org/beotech/mclconn5.htm

Pin 8 = data

Thanks for the quick response Guy.

I don't know if the cable is fully wired, but I can see all 21-pins in the plug.

Do you suggest that the DVD2 wouldn't get IR-signals through HDMI? So the only possible connection is a fully wired SCART-cable? Huh?

Often SCART cables have all the pins without them all being connected - best to check with a multimeter.

And yes, I understand that the DVD2 must get IR signals via the SCART and not the hdmi.  Old technology I know but it should work!

Further to my last, one thing that I didn't realise with the DVD2 is that there are 6 recessed buttons on the back (under the hdmi socket) that enable you to control the player.  So at least you can test if it works!

From the service manual (available if you upgrade to silver) they are:

S1 Open / Close

S2 Next

S3 Standby

S4 Record

S5 Stop

S6 Play

And a search of the old forum gives this useful answer: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/35740.aspx

Thank you so much Guy Lets have a Party !!!.

When i get home from work, i will try to test out the 6 buttons on the back as you suggested, and then I can buy a new SCART-cable afterwards.

Happy that the unit was cheap, when I have to use SCART Laughing.

No problem - happy to help!  And my only TVs are BV6s hence SCART is being used widely here! Big Smile

Were you able to get this to work, and if so, how?

Hi Mike.

The DVD2 worked after i connected it with a fully wired SCART-cable. It can be connected with both an HDMI-cable and a SCART-cable at the same time. That way the HDMI transfers video- and sound-signal, and the SCART receives and translates IR-signals.

Not a smart solution, but it works.

Sigh - that would work if my Beosystem 3 had a SCART connector.  Apparently the version available in the US doesn't have one.

What a joke...

I bought mine extremely cheap secondhand, to stack on top of my BeoSystem 3 (EU).

I wonder if it wasn’t sold in the US, if so, there must be a solution.

I am working with B&O Support on a solution, but they have been a bit frustrating for some reason.

I once considered getting a DVD2 and trying a solution of connecting a SCART breadboard to make a connection of the PUC cable to the appropriate SCART pin.

As an afterthought to my last post: I suspect that B&O would have to create a PUC to make use of the PUC cable socket for a DVD2.

Looks like my request has been bumped up to engineering.  Hopefully they will have a solution.

Hmmm... now support is referring me to a retailer.

Sounds like typical BeoCare arrogance.

Steve at Sounds Heavenly might be able to create a cable to get the PUC signal from mini-RCA to SCART using the correct pin. However, you would also need a custom PUC entry made to load unto your BeoSystem 3.

Finally heard back from a retailer.  The recommended approach is to hack a SCART cable to connect the CTRL port of the Beosystem 3 to pin 8 of the SCART port on the DVD 2.  Parts are on the way.

Ok - finally got everything working between the DVD 2 and the US spec Beosystem 3.  The process I used was to use a male SCART connector and mate it with essentially a 3 lead IR Eye cable.  The IR cable plugs into the CTRL socket of an AV channel on the Beosystem 3.  Audio and video signals are by HDMI.  I picked up ground from the SCART ground shell and attached the signal lead from the cable to pin 8 of the SCART connector.  All is good.

Reviving this old post, are you able to clarify more regarding how you made your cable. Which pin on the plug connected to pin8 and where did the other wires go?

Thanks in advance

Stoobie
