My question is whether I can replace a defective button panel on my BS 2500 with a button panel from a BS 4000?

No ideas?  I'm bumping up with fingers crossed.

I replaced the button contact foil on my son's BC2300 several years ago, having obtained the parts from B&O.  Here's a copy of the front of the fitting instructions, which imp[lies that the same kit fits the 2300/2500 and Ouverture (latter marketed as BS4000 in US market).

I can scan and email you the entire fitting instructions if you PM me.

OP asks about the "button panel".
Not sure how much that includes.

The contact foil is the same for all the models mentioned.
The rubber mat in front of it (with button lettering) is different.

Yes that makes sense.  From memory it was quite a fiddly job to replace just the foil - and I wonder if you can still get hold of the repair kits?  If he could get away with simply replacing the whole button module (and live with the incorrect labelling) then that should be far easier.

I was thinking of replacing the whole front button panel...rubber buttons and whatever module is behind.  My BS 2500 is unresponsive when using the buttons.  There is an auction on Ebay that is selling an entire button panel, with the module that is behind it.

I guess I'm hoping that I can swap the bad with the good...plug and play maybe?

Thanks for advice!

Personally I wouldn't risk buying that BS4000 panel.  The actual button layout is totally different to the BS2500, so it is very unlikely that the machine would interpret the commands in the correct manner, even if you could live with the fact that the buttons were incorrectly labelled.  I think it would also be very difficult to swap across just some of the bits; the repair kit shown above required filing off some of the plastic contact sheet retainers with a small chisel!  The kit included tiny screws to replace this fastening.

Have you already had a look inside your BS2500?  When I fixed mine, only a couple of buttons were unresponsive, so clearly some of the tracks were broken on the contact foil.  If your entire keyboard is not working, perhaps the contact foil's connecting ribbon has slipped out of it's connector in its entirety.  I would certainly be looking inside before buying additional bits that may not solve the problem.
